Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

 

Jeremy Majors

UW-Milwaukee, Jr., Jonesboro, Ga.
Majors broke the school 800m record and qualified for the NCAA Regional last weekend at the Billy Hayes Invite. He ran a time of 1:48.97 for third overall in the event, while he was the top collegiate finisher. It beat the previous mark by 0.05 seconds, while eclipsing the qualifying standard (1:50.40) by 1.43 seconds.

 

Marcia Faustin

Loyola, Jr., Orland Park, Ill.

Faustin shattered her previous school record in high jump at the Billy Hayes Invitational last week. She posted a leap of 5-08.75 to finish second in the event and claimed the top spot in the Horizon League this season. With the mark, Faustin also qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional later this month in Knoxville, Tenn.

Jarrod Davis

Youngstown State, Sr., East Canton, Ohio

Davis finished first and broke his school record in the hammer at the Campbell/Wright Open in Youngstown State's final meet before this weekend's Horizon League Championship. Davis recorded a mark of 190-9 for the victory and hit the NCAA regional qualifying mark for the fourth time this season. According to Trackshark.com, Davis' mark ranks 14th in the Mideast Region and 59th nationally.

 

Sean Conroy

Loyola, Sr., Cork, Ireland

Conroy recorded a season-best time of 3:47.87 in the 1,500-meter run to finish ninth in the Billy Hayes Invitational at Indiana last week. His time is ranked the best in the Horizon League this season and narrowly missed qualifying for the NCAA Mideast Regional later this month.

 

Andrew Hayner

Detroit, So., Royal Oak, Mich. 

Hayner set a personal record in the 1500 meter race in Ann Arbor with a time of 4:03.55. He finished 17th.

 

Alex Hains

Butler, Jr., Cardiff, Wales

Hains rounded out a group of eight runners that posted times below the MidEast regional standard in the highly competitive 1,500m at the Billy Hayes Invitational.  His 3:47.48 (which roughly translates to a 4:04 mile) was.22 seconds under the Regional mark and is the top time in the Horizon League this season.

 

Brandon Cook

UIC, Sr., Decatur, Ill.

Cook gave the UIC men's track and field team its highest individual event finish at the Wisconsin Twilight on Saturday by placing fourth in the 100-meter dash, posting a time of 11.02.

 

Satara Freeman

Youngstown State, Sr., Cleveland, Ohio

Freeman ran a winning time of 14.25 in the 100 hurdles and placed third in the 400 hurdles (1:07.03) to pace the women's squad at the Campbell/Wright Open. Her time in the 100 hurdles was just .02 off her personal-best time, which ranks first in the Horizon League this season.

 

Tenia Fisher

UW-Milwaukee, Sr., Milwaukee, Wis.
Fisher broke the school record in the 400m, while competing at the Wisconsin Twilight last weekend. She ran a first-place time of 54.80 to top the previous standard of 54.81 and win the event. The time was also a personal record of hers by 1.24 seconds. During her senior year, she has now broken the school mark in each of her five indoor and outdoor events.


 

Idara Essien

UIC, So., Wheaton, Ill.

Essien gave the UIC track and field team its lone event title at the Wisconsin Twilight on Saturday, winning the triple jump with a leap of 11.66m.

 

Jennifer Williamson

Wright State, Sr., Grove City, Ohio

Williamson was 5th in the 100-meter hurdles on Friday at the UT Rocket Open in a season- best time of 15.54.

 

Andrea Karl

Detroit, Sr., Casco City, Mich

Karl finished second in the 1500 meter race at the Paddock Invitational with a time of 4:28.97.

 

Ava Hutchinson

Butler, Sr., Fleet, U.K.

Hutchinson earned two victories in the 1,500m last weekend, placing first at both the Billy Hayes Invitational and the Butler Twilight.  Her time of 4:29 set a meet record at the Butler Twilight but fell just short of the NCAA Mideast regional qualifying mark.

 

Upcoming Schedule

 

The 2006 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be held May 11 and 12 in Indianapolis, Ind. The championship, hosted by Butler University, will be held at Michael Carroll Stadium on the IUPUI campus.  The UW-Milwaukee Panthers, also the winners of the 2006 Indoor title, look to defend their 2005 outdoor crown, while the Youngstown State Penguins, runners-up at this year's indoor meet, will try to defend their 2005 women's title.  For more information on the 2006 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, visit the 2006 Championship Page on www.horizonleague.org.
