Male Athlete of the Week

 

Tom Grant

Detroit

Sr., Farmington Hills, Mich.

Grant won the long jump with a leap of 22 feet 10 inches. Also finished second in the 110 meter hurdles at 15.05. He was the top collegiate finisher in that race.

 

Female Athlete of the Week

 

Bethany Anderson

Youngstown State

Jr., Jamestown, N.Y.

Anderson hit the NCAA Regional qualifying mark for the second straight week in the hammer to finish third at the Sea Ray Relays. She posted a mark of 178 feet, 2 inches to miss her school record by four inches.

 

Other Men's Top Performers for the Week

 

Andy Wall

UIC

Fr., Peoria, Ill.

Wall helped pace the UIC men's track and field team at the Elmhurst Invitational on Saturday, winning the triple jump while also placing second in the high jump and in the 110-meter hurdles. Wall's leap of 13.39 meters gave him the triple-jump crown. He was edged out by teammate Scott Pauga in the high jump (1.91 meters) and crossed the line in :16.21 in the hurdles.

 

Nick Kruse

Youngstown State

Sr., Napoleon, Ohio

Kruse ran a personal-best time of 3:57.20 in the 1,500-meters to finish 19th at the Sea Ray Relays. That time ranks him sixth in school history in the event and second in the Horizon League this season.

 

Jimel Denham

Loyola

Jr., Round Lake Beach, Ill.

Denham led off a 3:18.12 effort by the Loyola men's 4x400-meter relay team that earned second place at the Carolina Fast Times Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Saturday. Denham also finished seventh in the 200-meter dash with a :21.75 effort in addition to an 11th-place finish in the 100-meter dash (:10.99).

 

Other Women's Top Performers for the Week

 

Kristen McMurray

UIC

Fr., Lisle, Ill.

For the second straight week McMurray was on the mark in the throws, taking the title in the discus while also placing fifth in the hammer throw at the Elmhurst Invitational on Saturday. McMurray's heave of 35.83 meters gave the women's team its lone event title of the day. She then came in just behind teammate Monique Bostert in the hammer throw with a toss of 38.54 meters.

 

Kara Henry

Butler

Sr., Elmhurst, Ill.

Henry won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio.  She out-raced 13 other competitors to claim first place in 11:06.53.  Her winning time was more than ten seconds ahead of runner-up Valerie Hardesty of IPFW.

 

Amanda Domich

Loyola

Sr., Algonquin, Ill.

Domich established a new personal-best effort in the 10,000-meter run on Sunday at the Mt. Sac Relays in San Antonio, Tex., with a 35:34.10 effort, beating her previous best by 11.9 seconds.

 

Cortney Mann

Wright State

Sr., Hilliard, Ohio

Mann finished sixth in the discus with a toss of 33.91 meters at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational.

 

Tiffany James

Detroit

So., Westland, Mich.

James had a strong day at the Bison Outdoor Classic as she won the 100 meters with a time of :12.38. She also finished seventh in the 200 meters with a time of :26.02 and was part of the eighth place 4x400 meter team.
