Male Athlete of the Week

 

Nick Gretz

UW-Milwaukee

Sr., Two Rivers, Wis.

Gretz became the first Panther ever, man or woman, to win an event at the Drake Relays. Gretz claimed the shot put with a toss of 60'7.75" and broke his own school record of 57'9.5" by almost three feet. His mark is currently 14th in the nation. Gretz also placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 175'1".

 

Female Athlete of the Week

 

Genni Gardner

Butler

Jr., Bramley, United Kingdom

Gardner ran the second-fastest 5,000-meter time in Butler history, while placing fifth in a strong field at the Penn Relays.  She crossed the finish line in 16:26.82, topping the NCAA Division I qualifying mark. Gardner's time was second only to Victoria Mitchell (16:06 in 2005) on Butler's all-time 5,000-meter list.

 

Other Men's Top Performers for the Week

 

JD Sheppard

Youngstown State

So., Huron, Ohio

Sheppard ran a season-best time of 1:53.71 in the 800m on Saturday at the Hillsdale Relays. That time ranks him third in the Horizon League's top times list this year.

 

Joseph Mbari

UIC

Jr., Kenya

Mbari highlighted the Flames' efforts at the Redbird Invitational on April 28 by taking first in the 5,000-meter race. Mbari's time of 15:33.55 was a season-best for the Kenya native.

 

Erik Hernandez

Loyola

So., West Chicago, Ill.

On the men's side at Saturday's Concordia Invitational, Hernandez won a pair of titles in the shot put (52'9.25") and hammer throw (156') with both performances ranking as the second-best in school history.

 

Sinisa Simic

Detroit

Sr., Windsor, Ontario

Simic finished 26th in the steeplechase at the Hillsdale Relays with a time of 9:32.71, less than a half second off his own all-time Titan record of 9:32.39 set in 2005.

 

Other Women's Top Performers for the Week

 

Robyn Ray

Youngstown State

Fr., Cleveland, Ohio

Ray finished second in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 36'5.5" at the Sparky Adams Invitational on Saturday. That mark also ranks her third in YSU's record book and fourth in the League this season.

 

Tiffany Brigham

Wright State

Fr., Springfield, Ohio

Brigham posted a pair of top-five finishes at the Stan Lyons Invitational over the weekend. The freshman broke a pair of her own school records, posting a :12.02 in the 100 and then a :24.61 in the 200. She then helped the 4x100 team to a third-place finish in a time of :50.20.

 

Lisa Petty

UIC

Sr., Brookfield, Ill.

Petty notched UIC's highest finish at the Redbird Invitational, taking second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:21.52.

 

Amanda Domich

Loyola

Sr., Algonquin, Ill.

At the Penn Relays, Domich ran her personal-best 5,000-meter race of 17:09.16 to finish 14th out of 32 runners. Her performance ranks as the seventh-fastest in school history.

 

Ashley Schinske

Detroit

So., Paw Paw, Mich.

Schinske set a couple of personal records in her competitions. She finished 21st in 400 meters with time of 60.58. Not only was that a personal record but it was also the 11th best time by a Titan all-time. She also set a personal record in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.25. She finished 26th in that race.

 

Beth Zimmerman

UW-Milwaukee

So., Waterford, Wis.

Zimmerman won the triple jump at the Kip Janvrin Simpson College Open with a leap of 39'6.5".  She also broke her own school record in the event which she had set a week earlier.  Zimmerman then took second in the long jump with a mark of 18'5.25".
