With fall sports already underway there's an exciting feeling around the HLN headquarters. It's a different feeling getting ready for the upcoming HL calendar year. A big part of that is the website that you're on right now. We're still enamored with all the bells and whistles and get giddy over some of the features we've been longing for since the inception of the network. There are also other reasons for excitement. More of us will be putting in work to make HLN a better place for all the student athletes, schools, HL office, and of course the fans. That is the genesis of my excitement for the upcoming year.
I've followed and worked for the league off and on for the better part of five years. But almost everything I've experienced has been through a narrow scope. Last year I was able to travel to several HL campuses and get a better feel for the people and places that make up the Horizon League. I was able to see "The ARC" at Valpo and feel the air whipping through the buildings on Loyola's campus. Seeing a packed Nutter Center and feeling the excitement of a Green Bay â Milwaukee game only left me wanting more.
The window that I've always looked through at the Horizon League has been men's basketball. It is, without question, the league's flagship sport. However, it's only a small piece of the HL athletic landscape. That's what I'm excited about. Being âfull-time' this year on HLN I'm going to get to see almost every league championship. It will give me a demonstrably better perspective on the league as a whole, specifically the student athletes and fans that make up our great league. I'm ready to break through that window and take a look around.
So show me what you've got Horizon League. I'm ready.
