  • 2009 Men's Soccer Championship Bracket

    INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler University will be the top seed in the 2009 Horizon League Men's Soccer Championship presented by U.S. Army after claiming its first regular-season title in six years. The winner of the League's six-team tournament earns an automatic berth into the 48-team NCAA Championship.

    Butler (13-2-1 overall, 6-1-1 Horizon League, 19 points), ranked 13th in the NCAA's latest RPI and 24th in the most-recent NSCAA/adidas poll, earns a bye to the semifinals of the tournament. The Bulldogs have won seven of their last eight contests.

    The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (13-2-2, 6-2-0, 18), which has won seven of its last eight affairs, earns the tournament's No. 2 seed and will also receive a bye to the semifinals.

    Valparaiso University (9-6-2, 4-2-2, 14) earns the tournament's No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (3-12-2, 2-4-2, 8) in a quarterfinal match on Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET.

    Cleveland State University (7-7-4, 4-2-2, 14) earns the tournament's No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 University of Illinois at Chicago (6-6-6, 3-3-2, 11) in the other quarterfinal tilt on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.

    Green Bay will square off with the highest remaining seed in the first semifinal on Friday at 12 p.m. ET, while Butler will face the lowest remaining seed in the second semifinal on Friday at approximately 2:30 p.m. ET. The championship match is slated for Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

    Butler will host both semifinal matches and the tournament finale at the Butler Bowl on campus.

    Fifth-seeded Loyola University Chicago posted upset wins over top-seeded UIC and third-seeded Cleveland State en route to winning the 2008 Horizon League Championship. The Ramblers fell to Northwestern University in the opening round of last year's NCAA Tournament.

    UIC earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after being nationally-ranked in 2008. The Flames knocked off the University of Dayton and Michigan State University in the first two rounds before falling to the University of North Carolina in the Sweet Sixteen.

    Game 3 -- #2 Green Bay vs. highest remaining seed -- 12:00 p.m. ET
    Game 4 -- #1 Butler vs. lowest remaining seed -- 2:30 p.m. ET

    Sunday, Nov. 15 -- championship at #1 Butler
    Game 5 -- Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner -- 1:00 p.m. ET
