The 2004 Horizon League Volleyball Championship will open this Thursday, Nov. 18, at the Beeghly Center on the campus of Youngstown State University with regular-season champion University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee as the No. 1 seed. The Panthers (19-7, 13-1), who have won 11 straight matches, will receive a bye to the semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 20, along with No. 2 seed Butler University (18-9, 12-2).




In the first match of the tournament, No. 6 seed University of Wisconsin-Green Bay (9-18, 6-8) will face No. 7 seed Wright State University (4-25, 2-12) at 5 p.m. Eastern. No. 5 seed University of Illinois at Chicago (10-20, 6-8) will meet host and No. 8 seed Youngstown State (9-20, 1-13) at 7:30 p.m.




No. 3 seed Loyola University Chicago (19-8, 10-4) then will play the winner of the UW-Green Bay/Wright State match on Friday, Nov. 19, at 5 p.m., followed by #4 seed Cleveland State University (13-12, 6-8) against the winner of the UIC/Youngstown State contest.




The championship match will be held Sunday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m. with the winner receiving the Horizon League's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The final will be televised live on WMLW in Milwaukee, WFBT in Chicago, Comcast Cable in Indianapolis and Time-Warner Cable in Dayton, Ohio.




UW-Green Bay is the defending tournament champion after upsetting UW-Milwaukee 3-2 in last year's final at Indianapolis.
