EDMONTON, Alberta, Canada -- Detroit alumnus Khalil Parris won the Canadian national title in the men's 400 meter hurdles at the Canadian Championships and Selection Trials from Foote Field.

Parris, the Horizon League champion in the 400 meter hurdles, was the second-ranked qualifier for the finals, posting a time of 52.10 in Thursday's qualifying heat. In Friday's finals, Parris dropped his time to 51.49, winning the national championship by 0.26 seconds.

The Canadian Rio 2016 Olympic Games team will be unveiled on Monday, July 11 at 1 p.m. ET in Edmonton.

Should Parris be chosen to the team, he will take part in the opening ceremony for the Rio Olympics on Wednesday, Aug. 3. The track and field competition begins on Friday, Aug. 12, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 21.
