INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee senior Becky Peters and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay senior Megan Elfering have been named Horizon League Volleyball Players of the Week for the period of Sept. 15-21.
A native of Germantown, Wis., Peters earns Offensive Player of the Week accolades after pounding a Horizon League-best 63 kills during three matches last week. She also hit .285 and contributed 41 digs from the outside hitter position.
Peters, who has recorded double-figure kills in all 12 matches this season, drilled a career-best 24 smackdowns on Sunday against Pacific-10 foe Oregon State. It was her 10th double-double (kills/digs) of the campaign.
Peters became Milwaukee's all-time digs leader in a 3-1 win (25-22, 25-20, 19-25, 27-25) over Northern Illinois on Tuesday. She also helped the Panthers to a 3-1 victory (25-18, 20-25, 25-20, 25-17) at Wright State in the league opener on Friday.
A native of Bristol, Wis., Elfering picks up Defensive Player of the Week honors after collecting a Horizon League-high 30 digs on Saturday at Wright State. The dig total tied for third most in school history in a four-set match.
Elfering, who has registered 20+ digs in seven consecutive matches, has already recorded 257 digs from the libero position this season. Her 5.84 digs-per-set average leads the Horizon League by nearly one dig over the league's No. 2 individual.
Milwaukee and Green Bay are both scheduled to host a pair of Horizon League matches this weekend. The Panthers entertain Butler on Friday and Valparaiso on Saturday, while the Phoenix welcomes Valpo on Friday and BU on Saturday.
