Valparaiso forward Alec Peters moved into third place on the all-time Horizon League men’s basketball scoring chart with a 20-point outing at Detroit Mercy. Peters eclipsed the scoring standards of Detroit Mercy’s Rashad Phillips and Butler’s Chad Tucker and now has 2,325 points for his career. Oakland stayed hot, winning its sixth consecutive game and stayed within a game of Valparaiso in the league standings. Martez Walker scored a game-high 21 points and the Golden Grizzlies recorded 13 steals in the win against UIC.
Valparaiso 83, at Detroit Mercy 63*
DETROIT -- Alec Peters scored 20 points to move into third on the Horizon League's career-scoring list, Tevonn Walker added 11 points with 11 rebounds, and the Crusaders beat Detroit Mercy 83-63 on Sunday to stay atop the Horizon League standings.
Peters shot 8 of 16 from the field and hit 3 of 7 from behind the arc. His 2,325 career points surpass the 2,319 scored by Rashad Phillips of Detroit Mercy (1997-2001) and the 2,321 by Chad Tucker of Butler (1983-88).
Detroit led 19-18 on Jaleel Hogan's layup, but Lexus Williams's layup put Valpo (22-6, 12-3) up for good and sparked an 11-5 run capped by Max Joseph's 3-pointer that made it 29-24 with 3:42 left in the half.

at Oakland 87, UIC 75*
ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Martez Walker scored 21 points, Sherron Dorsey-Walker and Nick Daniels each added 17 and Oakland took control after halftime to beat UIC 87-75 on Sunday for its sixth straight win.
The Flames closed to 38-36 on Tai Odiase's jumper 30 seconds into the second half, but Dorsey-Walker countered with a 3 that triggered a 12-2 Oakland outburst that Walker capped with a 3-point play.
Clinton Robinson's layin brought the Flames within 63-52 with 12:09 left, but Dorsey-Walker buried another 3 and Oakland (21-7, 11-4 Horizon League) led by double digits the rest of the way.
