INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – Valparaiso junior Jenny Pokorny has been named Horizon League Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while Butler freshman Maggie Harbison has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period of Sept. 13-19.
Pokorny, a setter from Geneva, Ill., collected 92 assists (10.22 assists per set) and 16 kills for the Crusaders last week. She registered seven kills, hitting .353 and 48 assists to help Valparaiso beat Wright State on Friday. Pokorny fell just shy of a triple-double against Butler on Saturday, recording 44 assists, 20 digs and 9 kills. She also registered 33 digs (3.67 dps) and 4 blocks on the weekend.
Harbison, an outside hitter from Carmel, Ind., recorded 16 digs and 10 blocks for the Bulldogs last week. She tallied career-high 12 kills, 9 digs and 6 blocks at Loyola on Friday, and 9 kills, 7 digs and 4 blocks at Valparaiso on Saturday. Harbison also registered 21 kills helping Butler go 2-0 on the road to open Horizon League play since 2004.
Butler returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts IUPUI for a 7 p.m. ET match. Valparaiso continues conference play at UIC on Friday in an 8 p.m. ET start.
