INDIANAPOLIS -- Valparaiso University senior Angie Porche has been named Horizon League Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while University of Illinois at Chicago junior Epiphany Davis has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period of Sept. 14-20.
Porche, an outside hitter from Lynwood, Ill., collected 36 kills (3.60 kps) and hit .317 for the Crusaders last week. Porche's best performance came Saturday at the University of Pittsburgh when she hammered 17 kills and hit .433 in a four-set match.
Porche, the Horizon League's 2008 Player of the Year, also helped Valparaiso to 3-0 victories over Youngstown State University on Friday and the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday.
Davis, a middle blocker from Chicago, Ill., recorded a League-best 17 blocks (1.70 bps) for the Flames last week. Her performance also included 12 rejections over the weekend in conference action.
Davis notched five blocks in UIC's 3-0 upset of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday and tallied seven more in a 3-1 win over the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay on Sunday.
Valparaiso (7-5, 1-0) returns to action on Friday when it entertains Wright State University at 8 p.m. ET. UIC (6-8, 2-0) is back on the court Saturday when it travels to Youngstown State at 2 p.m.
