Wright State rallied to within one in the final minute before falling to Pallacanestro Lucca 86-81 Wednesday in the first game of its Italy trip.
Up 56-43 at the half and 71-55 after three quarters, Lucca appeared to be in control with a 81-69 advantage with 2:30 remaining in the game.
The Raiders, however, rallied with an 11-1 run, five coming AJ Pacher and four by Matt Vest, to trail 82-80 with 28 seconds to play. Reggie Arceneaux then made one of two foul shots at the 15-second mark to make a one-point game.
Wright State, however, would get no closer as after Lucca made a pair of foul shots on its next possession, a missed three by the Raiders resulted in two more free throws to account for the final margin.
Vest and Pacher each finished with 15 points to pace WSU while Julius Mays had 12, Arceneaux 11 and Cole Darling nine.
Wright State returns to action on Thursday afternoon, taking on Florence Basket at 12:30 Eastern time. Fans can follow the game with a live blog starting at noon. The blog and other blogs, photos and video on the Italy trip can be found by clicking here.
