Raiders Fall to Kentucky in NCAA First Round Game

The Wright State women's basketball team saw its historic season come to an end Saturday afternoon as #10/11 Kentucky led from start to finish in a 106-60 NCAA First Round decision at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington.

Tay'ler Mingo tied the game at 2-2 with two foul shots at the 17:38 mark, but that turned out to be the only time that Kentucky did not lead the entire game as the Wildcats took the lead for good with seven straight points.  The margin, though, was just 23-16 on a Tayler Stanton tip-in at the 10:36 mark before UK closed the half by outscoring the Raiders 28-9 to go up 51-25 at the break.

Kentucky shot 46 percent in the opening 20 minutes while holding WSU to just eight-of-40 shooting for 20 percent.

The Wildcats gradually built on the advantage the rest of the way as they 23 of 34 shots in the second half, including four of six three-pointers, while Wright State shot 26 percent.

Kentucky shot 55 percent overall and was 11 of 15 at the foul line while the Raiders shot 23 percent and were 19 of 32 at the stripe.  The Wildcats led 66-26 in points in the paint and 25-11 in second-chance points as they finished with a 67-40 rebounding edge.

Ivory James, in her final game as a Raider, led the way with 16 points while Mingo had 14 and Kim Demmings 12.  Stanton added 14 rebounds, 10 of those on the offensive end, and scored seven points.

Kentucky (25-8) had seven players score in double figures,, led by Jennifer O'Neill's 21 off the bench.

Wright State, making its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament, set a record for wins in a season as the Raiders finished 26-9.
