Brown Deer, Wis. - Day three of the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships saw three League records broken as the UW-Green Bay women and Wright State men continue to lead the chase to the title.

 

On the women's side, the Phoenix leads with 555 points, while Wright State remains in second place with 494 points. UW-Milwaukee (444), UIC (325), Cleveland State (236), Youngstown State (196) and Butler (107) close out the remaining field after day three.

 

UW-Green Bay extended it lead thanks to titles in the 100 butterfly and 800-freestyle relay on Friday evening. Sarah Ciganek picked up the title in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.83, edging out Wright State's Amy Cron who finished second with a time of 56.99. Behind Laura Brager, Laurel Yelton, Kristin Carlson and Sarah Ciganek, the Phoenix set a new Horizon League record in the 800-free relay, finishing in a time of 7:39.41.  

 

After taking the 500-freestyle title on Thursday, Wright State's Tina Pandza broke a League record in the 200 freestyle, touching the wall in 1:52.32. The previous record was set by Notre Dame's Shelley Hotchkiss in 1995. The Raiders also picked up a victory in the 400 individual medley as Jessica Weidert swam to a title with a time of 4:32.52. She captured the 200 IM title on Wednesday.

 

UW-Milwaukee's Lindsay Caldwell grabbed her second title of this year's championship on Friday. A day after capturing the 50-freestyle title, she set a new League record with a time of 1:04.21 in the 100 breaststroke, breaking the old record of 1:04.44 held by former Wright State swimmer Stephanie Besco (1996).

 

After finishing a close second in the 200 IM on Thursday, Cleveland State's Samantha Jones captured a title in the 100 backstroke, with a League record-breaking time of 57.03. Jones broke the  record of 57.26, held by former UW-Green Bay swimmer Nicole Palham since 1996.

 

On the men's side, Wright State continues its charge toward tying former member Notre Dame with the most championship in Horizon League history with six. The Raiders currently have 562 points, while Cleveland State follows with 460 points. UIC (420), UW-Green Bay (383.50), UW-Milwaukee (304.50) and Butler (98) fill out the rest of the field after day three.

 

Wright State captured four of the six titles up-for-grabs on Friday. Dejan Antolic, who finished second in Wednesday's 500 freestyle, took first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:38.90. Teammate Rafael Candido swam to a title in the 100 breaststroke as he touched the wall in 56.03.

 

After taking the 200 IM championship on Thursday, Alex Dolgov captured his second title of the meet, as he won the 400 IM with a time of 3:59.86. The Raiders also won the 800-freestyle relay, as Dolgov, Candido, Antolic and Will Ehresman led the field with a time of 6:42.50.

 

Cleveland State grabbed the remaining two championships of the day as the Vikings won the 100 backstroke and took the top-three spots of the 100 butterfly. Pieter Pelser captured the crown in the 100 back with a time of 49.71, while Luke Wilkens won the 100 butterfly in 49.05. Teammates Johan Norling (49.42) and Ryan Klaus (49.79) finished 2-3 behind Wilkens.

 

The Horizon League Championships conclude on Saturday, with preliminary heats beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT, followed by the women's one-meter and men's three-meter diving finals at 3:30 p.m. The swimming finals will occur at 6:30 p.m.
