YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Several records were broken on the second day of the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships, including both multi-event marks falling to Milwaukee athletes.

After winning three events and amassing 3,780 points on Friday, Milwaukee senior Dan Simon won the pole vault (4.65m) on Saturday afternoon and set a new Horizon League record with 6,926 points to win the decathlon. Simon’s total beat the old record of 6,532 (set in 2011 by Milwaukee’s Drew Fuek) by almost 400 points.

In the women’s heptathlon, Wright State senior Kylie Kopp won the long jump (5.56m) to pull within 66 points of Milwaukee senior Shelby Schaal, but Schaal won both the javelin (37.79m) and the 800m run (2:22.17) to win the competition and set a new Horizon League record with 5,084 points. Kopp finished second with 4,636 points.

Also setting a new record for Milwaukee was senior Garrett Vetesnik, who won the men's pole vault at 5.08m. That height broke the record Vetesnik had previously shared with former teammate Ben Crogan, which the pair set in 2011.

Other Panthers winners on the day included senior Sarah Finer, who won the women's pole vault at 3.45m, and Schaal again, who picked up a second win with a 39.62m toss in the women's javelin.

Youngstown State picked up five wins on Saturday, including a record-setting victory by senior Alison Roth, who won the women's shot put with a 14.30m throw. Other Penguins winners included junior shot putter John Seaver (17.47m), freshmen high jumpers Ashley Wagner (1.64m) and Jay Jakovina (2.07m) and the winner of the women's steeplechase, sophomore Brittany Stockmaster (11:09.78).

Loyola senior Candice Carajohn delivered a record-breaking performance in the women's long jump with a 6.19m leap. Ramblers junior James McLachlan won the men's long jump at 7.54m and fellow junior Alex Thornburg delivered a first-place finish in the men's steeplechase with a 9:23.76 finish.

The final record breaker on Saturday was Valparaiso sophomore Jeremy Getz, who won the men's javelin with a 61.08m toss.
