TOWSON, Md. – Youngstown State’s Vicky Rumph, Colleen Schneider of Wright State and UIC’s Coryn Schmit were honored as Capital One Academic All-America Third Team selections on Thursday. Voting was conducted of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

In 2012, Rumph posted a .340 batting average with 53 hits, 28 runs scored, 13 doubles, four home runs and a .975 fielding percentage for Youngstown State. She was one of just three Penguins to start all 51 games this past year.

In the classroom, she carries a 3.85 grade-point average as a chemistry major.

Rumph is the 13th student-athlete in YSU history to receive Academic All-America honors. Of the 13, 10 have been honored since 2001.

Schneider, a mechanical engineering major with a 3.93 grade point average, hit .292 in 47 games this season with three home runs and 19 RBI.  She also scored 16 runs as she was tied for second on the team with two triples and was third in fielding putouts with 187.

At Sunday's Rowdies Awards ceremony, she was presented with Wright State's Dr. Carl Benner Female Scholar-Athlete Award, which is given to the junior or senior with the highest GPA.

Schneider is the 17th Wright State athlete ever to be named as an Academic All-American and is just the second softball player, joining Maria (Barhorst) Davis, who received the same Third Team honor in 2001.

Schmit, posted a flawless 4.0 grade-point-average as an honors student in UIC's Kinesiology program, has been named the athletic department's Female Student-Athlete of the Year in each of the past two years. She was one-of just two players on the District-5 team to post a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Schmit finished with nine home runs, tying for third in the Horizon League. Her 39 RBI ranked sixth. Schmit wrapped up the year with a .302 batting average and a .506 slugging percentage, scoring 29 runs.
