INDIANAPOLIS -- UIC senior Coryn Schmit and Wright State sophomore Michael Timm have been named the Horizon League's May Scholar-Athletes of the Month.

Schmit graduated summa cum laude last month with a perfect 4.0 GPA. The kinesiology major was named a First-Team Academic All-American, First-Team All-Academic District 5 and the UIC Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

On the softball diamond, Schmit posted a .375/.524/.625 slash line and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, leading the Flames to a regular season Horizon League title. She was voted Second-Team All-Horizon League and won UIC's Leadership Award, given by the coaches to the person who shows exemplary leadership on and off the field.

Timm carried a 3.9 GPA in finance and was named to the Dean's List. He also made both the Wright State and Horizon League Honor Rolls.

On the field, Timm was named the Horizon League Batter of the Week on May 6 and tied for the team lead with 10 RBI during the month, including six in a series against Youngstown State when he went 7-for-13 at the plate. In the Horizon League tournament, Timm collected three hits and two RBI.
