INDIANAPOLIS -- UIC junior Matt Serna and Wright State junior Michael Meintel have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of Feb. 15-21. The awards are the first ever for both individuals.

Serna picks up Batter of the Week accolades after going 8-for-16 (.500) with two doubles, one triple, three runs and six RBI in four games last week. He also registered a .750 slugging percentage and .556 on-base percentage for the Flames.

The infielder, a native of Arlington Heights, Ill., was making his Division I debut after transferring from Lincoln (Ill.) College.

Meintel notches Pitcher of the Week honors after allowing just three hits over eight scoreless innings on Saturday in a 6-1 win over Le Moyne. He issued just one walk while striking out two for the Raiders.

The right-hander, a native of Shadyside, Ohio, allowed only one runner past second base and retired the final 14 batters he faced.

UIC went 1-3 against Canisius and Le Moyne last week, while Wright State went 2-2 against the same opponents in the USA Baseball Complex Classic.

Serna and Meintel will become eligible for the Horizon League Network's "People's Choice" award, which is announced each Thursday afternoon. Log on to www.HorizonLeagueNetwork.tv to vote.
