Seven #HLMBB Players on NABC All-District Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Seven Horizon League men's basketball players were recognized on the two National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 12 teams. Green Bay put two on the first team with Keifer Sykes and Alec Brown, while Youngstown State's Kendrick Perry and Oakland's Travis Bader each earned first team nods.

Valparaiso's LaVonte Dority, Juwan Howard, Jr., of Detroit, and Cleveland State's Bryn Forbes all collected second team honors. All seven players are now eligible for NABC All-America accolades.

The 2013-14 Horizon League Player of the Year, Sykes is averaging 20.3 points, 4.9 assists and 4.4 rebounds per game. The junior has reached double figures in 29 of 30 games and his 608 points scored this season are the fourth-most in Green Bay history. During the non-conference season, Sykes scored 32 points against Wisconsin, was named to the Great Alaska Shootout All-Tournament Team, and led Green Bay to a win over ACC champion Virginia with 21 points and 10 assists.

In Horizon League play, Sykes averaged 21.1 points per game.

Brown set Green Bay records for career rebounds and blocks during his career, while eclipsing his previous mark for single-season blocks with 93. Brown was named to an All-Horizon League team for the third time in his career and for the second time to the All-Defensive squad. The 7-foot-1 senior is averaging 15.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game. In addition to points and blocks, Brown is posting career-best numbers in field goal percentage (.492) and three-point field goal percentage (.441).

Perry became just the 13th player in Horizon League history to be named First Team All-Horizon League three times in his career and the first from Youngstown State. With 1,991 points in his career, Perry ranks first in the Penguins' Division I history and 10th in the Horizon League annals. For the second time in three years, Perry led the Horizon League in overall scoring with 20.9 points per game.  He scored at least 30 points times this season, including a career-high 35 on two occasions.

Bader broke the all-time NCAA record with 504 3-pointers made, setting the record on Feb. 2. The sharp-shooter led the Horizon League and finished second in the country with a school record 147 3-pointers this season. He holds the NCAA record in 3-pointers made and 3-point field goals attempted (1,246). Bader was selected to the All-Horizon League First Team and tied the school record with 137 career games played. His 94.3 free-throw percent set a new single-season school record and ranks second in the country, while his 20.6 points per game ranks second in the league and 16th in the country.

Dority earned the All-District accolade from the NABC after a First Team All-Horizon League senior campaign. The Chicago native paced the Crusaders and finished fifth in the league, averaging 16.0 points per game. Also among the league's best in free throw percentage (.847, 3rd) and 3-point percentage (.432, 4th), Dority led Valpo in scoring in 16 of its 32 games and scored in double figures on 28 occasions, including 11 games with at least 20 points.

Howard finished his junior campaign averaging 18.3 ppg, which ranked fourth in the Horizon League. He also finished 11th in rebounding (5.3), fourth in free throw percentage (83.9%) and tied for 10th with 1.7 three-point field goals made per game, all while leading the Titans with 2.2 assists per game. He started all 32 games this season averaging 34.5 minutes per game – sixth in the HL – and was in double figures in scoring 28 times, with 14 20-point scoring efforts.

Forbes, who was a second team All-Horizon League selection, leads CSU and ranks seventh in the league in scoring at 15.4 points per game. He has made a CSU single-season record 77 three-pointers this season, making at least one three in all 31 games he has played. Forbes is fifth in the Horizon League in free throw percentage (.823) and three-point field goal percentage (.423). He opened the season by making his first 28 free throws of the season. Forbes posted nine 20-point games this season and has 13 for his career.
