INDIANAPOLIS - The University of Detroit Mercy continued its tradition of success in the classroom as four softball players earned spots on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams with junior Kaleigh Rafter and senior Adrienne Baran garnering First-Team accolades, and seniors Sarah Dickey and Michelle Baggio placing on the Second Team. Loyola University Chicago junior Katerina Krause's First-Team award rounded out the softball awards, while University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee sophomore Andy Hetebrueg and Youngstown State University junior Josh Page (Second Team) were honored on the baseball teams.

Rafter was honored as 2007 Horizon League Co-Player of the Year after setting the Detroit career and single season records for home runs with 26 and 14, respectively. The junior slugger, who is part of the Canadian National Team, was third in the League in batting average (.413) and led the loop in home runs (14), total bases (98), on-base percentage (.538), slugging percentage (.810) and walks (32). In the classroom, Rafter is just as talented with a 3.84 grade-point average studying criminal justice. Baran was named to the All-League's Second-Team after setting new personal bests in batting average (.387), hits (43), home runs (six) and runs scored (16). Baran also picked up four wins in the circle for the Titans, while earning a 3.44 GPA as a biochemistry major.

Dickey was selected to the League's top team for the second straight season after leading the circuit in average (.448) and hits (69). Hitting in the top two spots of the Titan lineup her entire career, Dickey set the school's all-time and single season hit records last weekend. She finished her career with 206 hits and owns a 3.61 GPA in criminal justice. Despite missing part of the season due to injury, Baggio found her way onto the second squad with a 3.64 GPA in education. She hit .366 during the season with six home runs and 27 RBI.

Krause, who excels in the classroom as a psychology/sociology major (3.74 GPA), had a monster offensive season for the Ramblers, who captured the 2007 Horizon League regular-season title. The slugging infielder is hit .336 with team highs of nine doubles, 11 home runs and 28 RBI to go with a .406 on-base percentage and a .723 slugging percentage.

Page is currently hitting .321 with 23 RBI and 13 multi-hit games, including three four-hit contests. He owns a .958 fielding percentage as the Penguins' shortstop, while earning a 3.89 GPA as an early childhood education major. Hetebrueg has started 34 games for the Panthers, posting a .290 batting average with 13 RBI. Of his 31 hits on the season, nine are doubles. A marketing major, Hetebrueg owns a 3.76 GPA.
