Seven Teams Earn Votes in Opening Mid-Major Top 25

BOSTON -- Seven Horizon League men's basketball teams earned votes in the initial CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll, the organization revealed on Monday. Green Bay, the preseason favorite, ranked No. 21 in the poll.

The number of teams receiving votes led all mid-major conferences, with the Colonial and West Coast each having five teams earning votes. The Mid-Major poll includes teams from America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, WAC, West Coast.

The Horizon League also had the greatest percentage of teams receiving votes, illustrating its depth of field.

The 2013-14 men's basketball season will open on Saturday, Oct. 26, as Detroit and Valparaiso host exhibition games. Six Horizon League members will tip off the regular season on Friday, Nov. 8, as Detroit (at South Alabama), Green Bay (vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff), Youngstown State (at Kennesaw State), Milwaukee (at Loyola), Valparaiso (Murray State) and Oakland (at North Carolina), all will be in action.
