Shillito, Johansson Named Swimmers of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS -- Cleveland State’s Al Shillito and Alexandra Johansson are the Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Swimmers of the Week for Nov. 12-18.

Shillito, a junior from Christchurch, New Zealand, took top honors in six swimming events this past weekend at the Magnus Cup Invitational hosted by Cleveland State. In individual events, Shillito won three events, setting two school records in the process. He set a program record in the 100 backstroke (49.13) on Saturday and the 200 backstroke (1:47.04) on Sunday. He also won the 50 backstroke (23.15) during the Invitational. Shillito was also part of three winning relay teams, the 800 freestyle (6:49.11), the 200 medley relay (1:30.44) and the 400 medley relay (3:19.74)

Johannsson, a junior from Sundsval, Sweden, also had a successful weekend for the Vikings, setting one school record and recording seven wins. She set a school record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.67 and also won four other individual events. She won the 50 freestyle (23.54), 100 freestyle (51.14), 50 butterfly (24.73) and the 100 butterfly (55.00). She also was part of two victorious relay teams, the 200 freestyle and 200 medley.

The Cleveland State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to the pool when they compete in the Winter National Championships in Austin, Texas from Nov. 29-Dec. 1.
