INDIANAPOLIS- UIC swept the weekly awards with freshman Kayla Wedl picking up Player of the Week and Elaine Heflin earning Pitcher of the Week honors.

Kayla Wedl / UIC / Freshman / Shortstop / Wauconda, Ill.

In her first collegiate action, Wedl started all five games for the Flames and batted 7-13 for a .538 batting average. Of the freshman's seven hits, six were extra base hits (three doubles, three triples) batting in six runners over the weekend. The native of Wauconda Ill. also recorded 7 of UIC's 35 runs over the five-game stretch.

Against Butler, Wedl recorded a hit in every at-bat going a perfect 3-for-3. The shortstop brought in three of her six RBI in UIC's win over Western Illinois.

Wedl's performance helped the Flames off to the program's best start to a season since 1996 with a 5-0 record.

Elaine Heflin / UIC / Senior / Pitcher / Downers Grove, Ill.

Heflin picked up right where she left off from the 2016 campaign throwing two complete game shutouts against IUPUI and Butler. The senior struck out ten batters in the Flames 2-0 win over the Jaguars allowing just three hits. Just two days later, Haflen returned to the rubber dealing six strikeouts over five innings as the Flames cruised to a 10-0 victory over the Bulldogs.
