Indianapolis, Ind. - Steve Jones, who guided the women's golf team at Butler University last season, will take on the additional duties of men's golf coach at Butler, beginning in 2004-05. The appointment will consolidate both Butler golf teams under one head coach for the first time.

Jones is replacing former men's coach Ben Weaver, who relinquished his head coaching duties because of the increased time demands of his position as head professional at Prestwick Country Club. Weaver, who guided the Bulldogs for the past six seasons, will remain with Butler's golf program as an assistant coach.

"Steve is a wonderful teacher of the game of golf," said Butler Director of Athletics John Parry. "I am confident that he and Coach Weaver, along with a yet to be named assistant, will enhance both our men's and women's golf teams."

Jones, who serves as director of instruction at the Golf Academy at Eagle Creek Golf Course, led the women's golf team at Butler to a runner-up finish at the 2004 Horizon League Women's Golf Championship last spring. He coached two All-Horizon League golfers, including league medalist Lynnsey Showers, and he was named Horizon League Co-Coach of the Year. He also guided the Bulldogs to a team title at the Franklin Fall Invitational and to runner-up finishes at the Tennessee Tech Lady Eagle Classic, the Cleveland State Women's Golf Invitational and the Butler Spring Invitational.

Prior to assuming his current position at Eagle Creek, Jones served as head professional and co-owner of Turkey Run Golf Club in Waveland, Ind. He also served as a part-time golf instructor at Riverside Golf Academy in Indianapolis from May of 2000 to July of 2001.

A Class A-1 member of the PGA of America and the Indiana Golf Association, Jones has been a prominent senior player in Indiana. He was named Indiana Senior PGA Player of the Year in 1998 and 1999.

The Butler golf coach holds a B.S. degree in education from Utah (1971). He also has completed the PGA Business School, I, II and III, and the PGA Rules Seminar.
