Horizon League Swimmers of the Week

 

Bjorn Schantz

Cleveland State, Junior, Loddekopinge, Sweden

Schantz claimed three individual victories over the weekend against Valparaiso and Notre Dame.  He won both the 200 free (1:42.00) and 500 freestyle (4:38.86) at Valparaiso before improving upon his Horizon League-best time in the 1,000 free against the Fighting Irish with a winning time of 9:23.19.

 

Molly Finn

UW-Milwaukee, Freshman, Pewaukee, Wis.

Finn earned three victories at the Bill Ritter Invitational, leading the Panther women to a team title. She took first in the 200 IM (2:09.79), the 400 IM (in a pool-record time of 4:34.63) and the 200 butterfly (2:09.11). She also swam with four relay teams on the weekend, helping UWM to victories in both the 400 medley (3:57.74) and the 400 free relay (3:34.49). She also swam with the second place 200 free relay and third place 800 free relay squads.

 

Horizon League Divers of the Week

 

Phillip Zumstein

UW-Green Bay, Junior., Mundelein, Ill.

Zumstein finished first on both boards at the Bill Ritter Invitational, helping the Phoenix men to a team title. His mark of 327.70 on the 3-meter board defeated the field by nearly 37 points and helped him qualify for the NCAA diving zone competition, where he will compete on both the 1 and 3-meter boards.Zumstein also scored a 293.10 to win the 1-meter event.

 

Erin Blemberg

UW-Milwaukee, Senior., Appleton, Wis.

Blemberg helped lead the way for the UWM diving team at the Bill Ritter Invitational. For the fifth time this season, she won both diving events at the same meet, earning victories on the one-meter board with 254.65 points and the three-meter board with 264.10.

 

Joey Weber

UW-Green Bay, Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.

Weber earned three individual victories and set two pool records at the Bill Ritter Invitational last weekend, leading the Phoenix men to a team title.  Weber set pool records in the 100 fly (50.87) and 200 backstroke (1:53.20) while also finishing first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.57.  Weber was also a part of two second-place relay teams, including the 200 and 400 medley teams.

 

Blake Booher

UIC, Jr., Barrington, Ill.

Booher continued to dominate the 50-yd freestyle, winning the event at the Bill Ritter Invitational with a 20.90. He also placed second in the 100 free (47.54) and fifth in the 200 free (1:47.33).  His best showing, however, came as part of five winning relay teams as he anchored the 200 freestyle (1:23.95) and 200 medley (1:35.02) teams to new pool records while also helping the 400 medley (3:30.28) and 400 freestyle (3:08.21) teams to victory.

 

Warren Thompson

Wright State, So., Boksburg, South Africa

Thompson earned victories in the 200 butterfly against both Miami (1:52.42) and Western Kentucky (1:53.28) last weekend.  He also won the 200 IM against Miami with a time of 1:57.69 and was a part of the first-place 400 freestyle relay team on Friday in 3:09.54.

 

Robby Leibold

UW-Milwaukee, Fr., Neenah, Wis.

Leibold was one of the leading performers for the Panthers at the Bill Ritter Invitational, setting a new pool record with a time of 16:21.81 in the 1650 free.  He narrowly missed a victory in the 400 IM, finishing in a time of 4:13.65, behind the 4:13.64 mark of UW-Green Bay's Joe Valen.

 

Thatcher Carr

Cleveland State, Sr., Russell, Ohio

Carr continued to put up strong scores for the Vikings, winning the 1-meter board at Notre Dame with a score of 352.65.  He claimed second on the 3-meter board with a score of 337.42, marking only the second time in his career that he has failed to win an event.

 

Jeff Jasinowski

UW-Milwaukee, Sr., Bayside, Wis.

Jasinowski was the top finisher in both diving events for the Panthers at the Bill Ritter Invitational, taking second in the 3-meter event with a score of 290.75 and third on the 1-meter board, recording 270.05 points.

 

Ryan Fitzer

UIC, Jr., Naperville, Ill.

Fitzer had a strong showing at the Bill Ritter Invitational, leading the Flames with a third-place finish on the 3-meter board with a score of 279.10 while posting a fifth-place mark of 245.35 in the 1-meter event.

 

Kelly Hyatt

UIC, Jr., Shakapee, Minn.

Hyatt turned in a strong weekend of work at the Bill Ritter Invitational, placing a close second in the 50-free with a time of 24.27, before placing second in the 100 free with a season-best time of 53.84. She also took third in the 100 butterfly (1:00.59) and led off the victorious 200 freestyle relay that set a new pool record and tied the Horizon League-best time of 1:37.22.

 

Mabel Fernandez

Wright State, So., San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina.

Fernandez won the 200 free and was a part of the first-place 400 freestyle relay team on Saturday against Western Kentucky with times of 1:56.32 and 3:37.60, respectively.

 

Jen MacLauchlan

Cleveland State, Fr., Newmarket, Ontario

MacLauchlan scored a pair of wins against Valparaiso on Jan. 20, swimming to a 2:18.80 in the 200 IM before recording a 1:01.22 in the 100 backstroke. She also swam the lead leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay that finished in 1:43.87.

 

Molly Cox

UW-Green Bay, Jr., Berlin, Wis.

Cox set a pair of pool records in helping the Phoenix finish a close second at the Bill Ritter Invitational last weekend. She bested a pool mark in the 500-yard freestyle Friday evening with a time of 5:06.06. The next day she wrapped up the meet by posting another pool record in the 1650 free with a time of 17:35.48 to defeat the field by over 19 seconds. Cox also finished fourth in the 200 free (1:57.66) and was a member of the UWGB `B' relay team that placed fourth in the 800 free relay (7:59.69).

 

Sarah Wyant

Wright State, Jr., Hamilton, Ohio

Wyant was the top Raider diver against Western Kentucky last weekend, winning both diving events with scores of 205.73 on the 1-meter board and 243.24 on the 3-meter board.

 

Sarah Economides

UIC, Jr., Downers Grove, Ill.

Economides led the Flames in both diving events at the Bill Ritter Invitational, placing fourth on the 1-meter board with a score of 237.40 and taking fifth in the 3-meter event with a mark of 228.70.
