Blake Booher

UIC, Junior, Barrington, Ill.

The reigning Horizon League 50-yard freestyle champion won his signature event with a blazing 20.57, just .04 from his school-record time, to pace the Flames to a win over Iowa. Booher also anchored the victorious 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay against the Hawkeyes, using a 50 free split of 19.87 in the 200 freestyle relay to pick up a dominating win. He has now won all nine 50-yard freestyle races he has competed in this season.

 

Molly Cox

UW-Green Bay, Junior, Berlin, Wis.

Cox finished first in all four individual events that she competed in last weekend. Friday in a win at Western Illinois, she finished first in the 200 freestyle (1:58.76) and the 200-yd butterfly (2:16.97). The following day at Illinois State, Cox swept the distance freestyle events, winning the 1000 in a time of 10:35.03 and the 500 in 5:11.89. She was also a member of the 400 free relay team that placed fourth. (3:42.29).

 

Horizon League Divers of the Week

 

Mark Pappalardo

UIC, Jr., LaGrange, Ill.

Pappalardo won the one-meter diving event with a career-best 331.95 in the event against Iowa on Saturday. He later placed second on the three-meter board with a 311.85.

 

Crystal Syzmanski

UW-Milwaukee, Jr., Hales Corners, Wis.

Szymanski became the latest Panther to sweep the diving events at the same meet, topping the field at the Western Illinois dual on both boards. She scored 264.38 points on the three-meter board and 248.10 on the one-meter to earn victories in each.

Jeremy Seibel

UW-Milwaukee, So., Grafton, Wis.

Seibel accounted for three of the Panthers' nine event wins in their defeat of Western Illinois this past weekend. He anchored the 400 freestyle relay team to a win in a time of 3:14.20 and also won two individual events, placing first in both the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle. His time of 2:02.74 was a season-best, while his time of 4:51.78 in the 500 free topped the field by almost two seconds.

 

Scott Lang

Wright State, So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.

Lang won three events over the weekend with two victories over Wittenberg on Friday and one against UC on Saturday.  Lang won the 200 Free (1:43.70) and 200 Butterfly (1:57.08) on Friday and the 1650 Free (16:13.64) on Saturday.

 

Raj Duggal

Butler, Jr., Columbus, Ind.

Duggal won the 1,000-yd. freestyle Saturday against Ball State with a time of 10:12.

 

Jeff Jasinowski

UW-Milwaukee, Sr., Bayside, Wis.

Jasinowski dove well against Western Illinois, placing first on the three-meter board and second on the one-meter. His 323.60 points on the three-meter board marked his second-highest score of the season in the event and was an NCAA Zone qualifying score.

 

Ryan Kellerman

Wright State, Jr., Erlanger, Ky.

Kellerman won the 1-meter diving event against Wittenberg on Friday with a score of 256.10 while also posting the top score in the 3-meter with 236.40.

 

Adam Sanders

UW-Green Bay, Sr., Burnsville, Minn.

Sanders helped lead the Phoenix to a dual meet win over Western Illinois last Friday by posting a pair of individual wins. Sanders won the 400-yd individual medley in a season-best time of 4:18.46 and the 200-yd backstroke in 2:01.81. He was also a member of the 400-yd medley relay team that finished second behind a group of Phoenix teammates in a time of 3:44.32.

 

Mary Beth Arnold

Butler, Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.

Arnold posted a season-best time of 5:04 in the 400-yd. IM and placed 2nd in the 100-yd. breaststroke Friday against Xavier. She followed that performance with a second-place performance in the 100-yd. IM Saturday at Ball State with a time of 1:05.

 

Heidi Goetsch

UW-Milwaukee, So., Plymouth, Wis.

Goetsch played an important role in helping the Panthers to their win over Western Illinois, winning two individual events. She won the 100 freestyle in a time of 55.39 and the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:00.25. She then anchored the 400 freestyle relay team to a win in a time of 3:43.96.  

 

Brittany Senn

Youngstown State, So., Hinkley, Ohio

Senn won two individual events and anchored the winning 200-yd freestyle relay as YSU defeated Denison 132-109 Saturday afternoon at the Beeghly Natatorium. She won the 50 free with a time of 25.29 and the 100 free in 55.16.

 

Andrea Giczewski

UIC, So., Livonia, Mich.

Giczewski picked up two wins against Iowa on Saturday, winning the 50-yd freestyle with a career-best 24.76 and later picking up the 100-yd freestyle victory with a personal-best 53.03. The 100 free time was just .3 off the school record

 

Marianne Lionell

Cleveland State, Jr., Sodertajle, Sweden

Lionell swam to a win in the 200 breaststroke against St. Francis on Jan. 26 with a CSU season-best time of 2:27.19.  She also registered a second-place showing in the 50 free (25.41) and swam the breaststroke-leg for the winning 400 medley relay team (4:07.54).

 

Jessica Weidert

Wright State, So., Spokane, Wash.

Weidert won the two breaststroke events during the weekend with a first in the 200 against

Wittenberg on Friday in 2:23.15 and the 100 against UC on Saturday in 1:07.67.

 

Crystal Grinstead

Wright State, Jr., Hornell, NY

Grinstead won both diving events against Wittenberg on Friday with scores of 243.90 (1-meter) and 235.40 (3-meter).

 

Kelly Reese

Youngstown State, Fr., Canfield, Ohio

Kelly Reese won the 3-meter board with a collegiate-best score of 241.30 and the 1-meter with a tally of 230.15 against Denison on Saturday.

 

Sarah Economides

UIC, Jr., Downers Grove, Ill.

Economides placed second on the one-meter board with a team-leading 269.10 and completed her day with a third-place 272.85 against Iowa.

 

Four Horizon League Swimmers Among Nations Best

 

Four Horizon League swimmers rank among the nation's best, according to CollegeSwimming.com. Bjorn Schantz and Pieter Pelser of Cleveland State University, Wright State University's Elvis Cirikovic and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Lindsay Caldwell all rank among Division I's top performers in the their respective events.  Schantz leads all Horizon League swimmers with national rankings in three events: the 200, 500 and 1650 freestyle.  His time of 15:50 in the 1650 free ranks 69th, while his times of 4:31.79 in the 500 and 1:39.89 in the 200 are 88th and 95th, respectively,   Pelser and Caldwell own spots on two lists apiece, with Pelser holding down 64th-place in the 200 backstroke (1:49.40) and 69th in the 100 back (50:21). Caldwell sits at 45th in the 100 free (50:58) and 57th in the 50 free with a time of 23.48, while Cirikovic rounds out the group ranking 51st in the 50 free with a time of 20.48.
