Horizon League Men's Swimmer of the Week

 

Scott Lang

Wright State, Sophomore, Inver Grove Heights, Minn.

Lang won two events in the Raider's League victory over UIC on Saturday, including the 1000 in a time of 9:51.26 and the 500 in 4:42.13

 

Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week

 

Jessica Weidert

Wright State, Sophomore, Spokane, Wash.

Weidert was a part of three first-place finishes on Saturday against UIC, including two individual and one relay victory.  She won the 200 IM in a time of 2:12.79 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:25.16 after being a part of the first place 400-medley relay that finished in a time of 4:01.44.

 

Horizon League Men's Diver of the Week

 

Thatcher Carr

Cleveland State,Senior, Russell, Ohio

Carr dove to four wins on the weekend against Miami (Ohio) and Canisius.  He won both the one and 3-meter boards on Friday against the Redhawks before posting Horizon League season-best scores of 338.50 on the 1-meter and 370.90 on the 3-meter against the Golden Griffins.

 

Horizon League Women's Diver of the Week

 

Erin Blemberg

UW-Milwaukee, Senior, Appleton, Wis.

Blemberg posted season-high scores in both diving events at the Golden Grizzly Quad, winning the 1-meter board with a score of 256.00 and the 3-meter with 284.40.  With a score of over 280 points on the 3-meter board, Blemberg qualified for NCAA Zone Diving.

 

Other Top Men's Performances

 

Pieter Pelser

Cleveland State, Sr., Krugersdorp, South Africa

Pelser swam to three individual wins and aided a pair of relay wins over the weekend against Miami (Ohio) and Canisius. On Friday, he won the 200 backstroke with a League-best time of 1:49.40 and helped the 400 medley and 400 free relay team to wins.  On Saturday, he claimed the top times in the 200 IM (1:58.85) and the 100 backstroke (52.58).

 

Chase Gravengood

UW-Milwaukee, So., Oconomowoc, Wis..

Gravengood posted a win in the 200 fly (1:56.14) against Wheaton on Friday and was part of the winning 400 medley and the second-place 400 free relay teams.  Gravengood also placed second in the 200 fly (1:55.82) at the Golden Grizzly Quad on Saturday. 

 

Blake Booher

UIC, Jr., Barrington, Ill.

The reigning Horizon League 50-yd freestyle champion out-dueled the League record holder, Wright State's Elvis Cirikovic, for a win in that event on Saturday with a time of 21.15. Booher also anchored the 400 free relay to a win.

 

Travis Cheney

Butler, Fr., Marion, Ind.

Cheney dropped three seconds from last week's time in the 200-yd freestyle, posting a 2:08.07 in the Bulldogs dual meet against Western Kentucky.

 

Jeff Jasinowski

UW-Milwaukee, Sr., Bayside, Wis..

Jasinowski claimed second in both the one and 3-meter boards on Saturday at the Golden Grizzly Quad.   His 243.15 points on the 1-meter board was a season-high.

 

Ryan Kellerman

Wright State, Jr., Erlanger, KY

Kellerman posted a score of 285.23 to earn a victory in the 1-meter board against UIC on Saturday.  He also finished third in the 3-meter with a score of  245.93.

 

Mark Pappalardo

UIC, Jr., LaGrange, Ill.

Pappalardo continued to impress on the boards for the Flames with a 3-meter victory and a runner-up finish on the 1-meter board against Wright State.  His score of 303.98 on the 3-meter board was a season high.

 

Other Top Women's Performances

 

Brittany Senn

Youngstown State, So., Hinkley, Ohio

Senn earned three victories and two second-place finishes this weekend, including the 50 free (25.02) and the 100 back (1:05.60) against Canisius on Friday.  She led off YSU's winning 400 free relay against Marshall a day later and added second-place finishes in the 100 free (56.06) and 50 free (25.41).

 

Kirsty McKechnie

Cleveland State, Sr., Durban, South Africa

McKechnie swam to a pair of individual wins and a relay win against Canisius on Saturday.  She swam the butterfly leg for the winning 400 medley  relay before claiming top times in the 200 IM (2:14.05) and the 100 free (55.08).

 

Molly Finn

UW-Milwaukee, Fr., Pewaukee, Wis..

Finn won three events on Friday against Wheaton, including the 200 IM, 200 breaststroke and the 200 fly.  Her time of 2:08.05 in the 200 fly set a school record, besting the previous record of 2:05.81 set in 1991.  Finn also took third overall in both the 200 IM and 200 fly on Saturday at the Golden Grizzly Quad.

 

Andrea Giczewski

UIC, So., Livonia, Mich.

Giczewski won two events for the second consecutive week, taking the 50-yd freestyle in 24.95 and the 200-yd backstroke in 2:10.33 against Wright State.

 

Danielle DeGrand

UW-Green Bay, Fr., Green Bay, Wis.

DeGrand helped guide the Phoenix to a convincing 173-103 win over Northern Iowa by posting wins in the 50 free (25.13) and 200 backstroke (2:08.48).  She was also part of the victorious 400 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.

 

Mary Beth Arnold

Butler, Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.

Arnold claimed the 50-yd. breaststroke in Saturday's dual meet at Western Kentucky, getting to the wall in a time of 31.21.  Arnold also posted times of 1:10.11 in the 100-yd breaststroke and 1:08.41 in the 100 butterfly.

 

Kelly Reese

Youngstown State, Fr., Canfield, Ohio

Reese posted two wins in the first three events of her collegiate career, claiming the 1-meter board against Canisius with a score of 224.75 and the 3-meter board against Marshall with 209.60.  She also placed second in the 1-meter against Marshall with a score of 234.50.

 

Sarah Wyant

Wright State, Jr.. Hamilton, Ohio

wyant was the top diver in Saturday's win over UIC, posting a first-place finish in the 1-meter board with a score of 258.38 and a second-place finish on the 3-meter with a 241.05.

 

Caitlin Carey

UIC, Sr., Buffalo, NY

After sitting out all last season due to illness, Carey registered her first victory in over a year with a 3-meter win against Wright State.  She took the title with a score of 244.95, while also placing third on the 1-meter board with a 231.83.
