Horizon League Men's Swimmer of the Week

 

Athanasios Lamprou

UIC, Senior, Thessaloniki, Greece

Lamprou won the 50-yard freestyle against Butler on Saturday with a season-best 21.55. He also displayed his versatility with a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming a 53.98.

 

Horizon League Women's Swimmer of the Week

 

Olivia Arnold

Youngstown State, Freshman, Ruthergien, Australia

Arnold won three individual events as the Penguins beat Cleveland State in a dual meet for the first time since joining the Horizon League in the 2001-02 season.  She claimed victories in the 1,000 free (10:49.71), the 500 free (5:14.95) and the 200 IM (2:16.51). Her time in the 500 free was a personal-best mark and ranks second in school history. On Friday against Ohio and Akron, she swam the second-best 1,000-yard freestyle time in school history (10:49.57) and added a personal-best time in the 100 breast (1:13.04).

 

Horizon League Men's Diver of the Week

 

Jeff Jasinowski

UW-Milwaukee, Sr., Bayside, Wis

Jasinowski dove to a perfect week, winning the one and three-meter events at both UWM meets. On Saturday, he won one-meter board, finishing with a then season-high 290.03 points to win by over 40 points. He then secured the victory in the three-meter event with another season-best of 287.40 points, topping second-place by close to 50 points. On Sunday, Jasinowski earned victories on both boards with new season-highs, scoring 317.25 points to qualify for NCAA Zones on the one-meter board and then a season-best 308.63 on the three-meter board.

 

Horizon League Women's Diver of the Week

 

Kelly Reese

Youngstown State, Fr. , Canfield, Ohio

Reese swept the diving events as Youngstown State defeated Cleveland State 118-116 Thursday evening at the Beeghly Natatorium. She posted a personal-best score of 241.70 in the 1-meter for the win and added a tally of 222.90 in the 3-meter. She followed that by placing third in the 3-meter and fourth in the 1-meter against Ohio and Akron.

 

Chase Gravengood

UW-Milwaukee, So., Oconomowoc, Wis.

Gravengood started the week with two second-place showings against North Dakota in the 200 IM and 200 butterfly, then came back with a strong showing on Sunday, winning two events. He claimed wins in the 100 (48.14) and 200 freestyle (1:45.49) and also swam the 100 breast in 1:00.80 (EX). All five times on the week were season-bests.

 

Mark Pappalardo

UIC, Jr., LaGrange, Ill.

Pappalardo set a new UIC Natatorium record with a pool-best and career-high 321.45 in taking the three-meter board against Butler on Saturday. He also won the one-meter event with a 281.40.

 

Raj Duggal

Butler,  Jr., Columbus, Ind.

Duggal posted a winning time of 10:01.25 at IUPUI Friday night in the 1,000-yard freestyle, defeating the field from Evansville, Xavier and the host Jaguars. The time proved to be a 15-second improvement over his 1,000-yard time in the team's season-opening meet Oct. 23.

 

Sarah Economides

UIC, So., Downers Grove, Ill.

Economides swept the one-meter and three-meter events against Butler, posting scores of 227.40 and 256.65, respectively.

 

Kirsty McKechnie

Cleveland State, Sr., Durban, South Africa

McKechnie tallied a pair of wins against Youngstown State last week, swimming to a season-best time in the 200 freestyle (1:59.88) and another win in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.84) to help the Vikings close the gap on the Penguins in a close 118-116 loss.  She also contributed a second-place showing in the 500 freestyle (5:19.09).

 

Mary Beth Arnold

Butler, Jr., Indianapolis, Ind.

Arnold claimed the 100-yd. breaststroke in Saturday's dual meet at UIC, getting to the wall in a time of 108.45.

 

Mabel Fernandez

Wright State, So., San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina

Fernandez took part in three first-place finishes on Friday against Miami.  She took first in the 100 and 200 free in times of 53.82 and 1:55.09, respectively, and was part of the first place 200 free relay team in a time of 1:38.98.

 

Lindsay Caldwell

UW-Milwaukee, Jr., West Bend, Wis.

Caldwell set two Klotsche Center records on Saturday, winning the 50 and 100 free. Her time of 24.01 in the 50 free topped the old mark of 24.19 and her time of 51.08 in the 100 free bettered the old mark of 53.21.       On Sunday, set a new UWM and pool record in the 200 free, winning in a time of 1:53.95, topping the old mark by over a half-second. She also was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team.

 

Danielle DeGrand

UW-Green Bay, Fr., Green Bay, Wis.

DeGrand set a new school mark in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.77 on Friday against North Dakota, plus finished first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:05.78) and second in the 100-yard butterfly (59.58). The following day against Valparaiso and South Dakota State she set her second school record in as many days with a time of 4:32.07 in the 400-yard IM to win by over 11 seconds. Also swam a leg on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay (3:40.56) and the 400-yard medley relay (4:02.55).

 

Erin Blemberg

UW-Milwaukee, Sr., Appleton, Wis.

Blemberg set new school records on both boards over the weekend, with NCAA Zone qualifying scores in each. On Saturday, she won the one-meter event with a UWM record 297.90 points, topping the old mark of 289.65. On Sunday, she set the three-meter record with a first-place effort of 315.68 points, bettering the old mark of 299.97.

 

Collen Dougherty

UIC, So., Woodstock, Ill.

Dougherty swam a 1:59.39 in the 200-yard freestyle against Butler, winning the event as the only swimmer to crack the sub-2-minute mark. She also led off the winning 200 free relay with a 50 free split of 24.75, her best 50-yard free time of the season.
