Male Swimmer of the Week

 

Blake Booher

UIC

Sr., Barrington, Ill.

The senior sprint-freestyler continued where he left off at the 2006 Horizon League Championships, racing to a 50 free win in an impressive season-opening time of :20.6. Booher also posted a :19.9 50 free split twice in UIC's 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay victories.

 

Female Swimmer of the Week

 

Lindsay Caldwell

UW-Milwaukee

Sr., West Bend, Wis.

Caldwell turned in a time of :24.47 in the 50 free to defeat Iowa and posted a :53.06 in the 100 free at the season-opener. In the 200 free, she placed sixth overall, narrowly missing another win over Iowa. She also finished seventh in the 200 IM and helped the 400 medley relay team to a third place finish and the 200 medley relay sixth.

 

Male Diver of the Week

 

Phillip Zumstein

UW-Green Bay

Sr., Mundelein, Ill.

Zumstein swept both of the diving events in a dual meet against Big Ten foe Wisconsin Friday. The senior posted a score of 241.65 to win the three-meter competition and a total of 266.63 to win on the one-meter board.

 

Female Diver of the Week

 

Sarah Economides

UIC

Sr., Downers Grove, Ill.

Economides swept the diving events against Eastern Illinois, taking the one-meter win with a tally of 235.70 and earning a three-meter victory with a score of 230.60.

 

Other Men's Top Performers for the Week

 

Korey McCulley

Butler

Sr., Great Bend, Kan.

McCulley put up the best men's showing at the Indiana Intercollegiate in the 50 freestyle, placing sixth and finishing just .15 seconds off his career-best time with a :21.97.  He also swam to a 13th-place showing in the 100 back with a :58.02. In the Bulldogs' first home meet of the year, he broke his career time in the 50 freestyle to finish third with a :21.80.

 

Marko Milenkovic

Cleveland State

So., Nis, Serbia & Montenegro

Milenkovic participated in seven relays at the non-scoring Ashland Relays, having a hand in five winning events. Both were team highs as the Vikings won seven of the meet's 10 relay events.

 

Joey Weber

UW-Green Bay

Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.

Weber put together a solid performance in the team's season-opening meet against Big Ten opponent Wisconsin. The senior finished first in the 100 backstroke (:51.20) and second in the 200 back (1:53.06) and the 100 butterfly (:51.64). He was also a member of the 200 medley relay team that placed third (1:38.74).

 

Mark Pappalardo

UIC

Sr., LaGrange, Ill.

Pappalardo went 2-for-2 on the boards against Eastern Illinois, winning the one-meter event with a score of 301 before taking a three-meter victory with a tally of 315.

 

Chase Gravengood

UW-Milwaukee

Jr., Oconomowoc, Wis.

Gravengood defeated Iowa in the 200 butterfly, finishing in 1:58.45 to place fifth overall. He then touched out  from a second win over Iowa in the 100 fly (.08 behind), placing fourth overall. Gravengood also took seventh in the 200 IM and also swam with the UWM 200 medley and 400 medley relay teams that placed fifth.

 

Other Women's Top Performers for the Week

 

Mary Beth Arnold

Butler

Sr., Indianapolis, Ind.

Arnold put up the Butler women's team's finest showing at the Indiana Intercollegiate, notching a seventh-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:08.15 clocking.  She added a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:29.17 and a fourth-place showing in the 200 IM with a 2:17.45.

 

Marianne Lionell

Cleveland State

Sr., Sodertalje, Sweden

Lionell anchored the Vikings' first-place 400 free relay team (3:49.06) and also the second-place 200 free relay team at the Ashland Relays.

 

Andrea Giczewski

UIC

Jr., Livonia, Mich.

Giczewski won the 50 free in :24.78 and finished a close second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.75 against Eastern Illinois. She also swam the third leg of UIC's victorious 200 freestyle relay. 

 

Emily Duesler

UW-Milwaukee

Sr., Middleton, Wis.

Duesler performed well in the season-opener, defeating Iowa and placing third overall on the three-meter board with 181.75 points. She also had a top-five showing on the one-meter, taking fifth with 190.55 points.
