Male Swimmer of the Week

 

Joey Weber

UW-Green Bay

Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.

Weber won three individual events as UW-Green Bay won three duels at IUPUI. He claimed titles in the 100 backstroke (:51.72), 200 backstroke (1:54.29) and the 50 freestyle (:21.48). The following day in a win over Valparaiso, Weber took home titles in the 100 freestyle (:48.22) and 200 freestyle (1:45.35)  while swimming a leg on the winning 200 medley relay (1:39.22).

 

Female Swimmer of the Week

 

Lindsay Caldwell

UW-Milwaukee

Sr., West Bend, Wis.

Caldwell dominated the sprint events against Butler and UIC, winning the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles in season-best times. She also led off the 400 free relay, getting UWM started to a win in that event as well. Against Valpo, she won the 200 free and swam the 100 breast as an exhibition.

 

Male Diver of the Week

 

Chris Dalman

Cleveland State

Sr., Auburn, Wash.

Dalman posted a 365.00 in the three-meter and a 364.95 in the one-meter, as the Vikings fell to Wright State. Dalman is undefeated for the season.

                       

Female Diver of the Week

 

Emily Duesler

UW-Milwaukee

Sr., Middleton, Wis.

Duesler continued to dominate the diving events, picking up her fifth and sixth wins of the season by sweeping both boards against Butler and UIC. Her score of 246.55 on the one-meter was just below her season-best and her score of 273.80 on the three-meter was an NCAA Zone qualifying tally. She also won the 1-meter against Valpo, recording 223.95 points.

 

Other Men's Top Performers for the Week

 

Corey Kupfer

UW-Milwaukee

Sr., Grafton, Wis.

Kupfer recorded a first-, second- and third-place finish on the weekend. He topped the field against Valpo on the one-meter with 243.35 points and then set season-bests on both boards against UIC and Butler, taking second on the one-meter and third on the three.

 

Bjorn Schantz

Cleveland State

Sr., Loddekopinge, Sweden

Schantz posted a League-best 4:28.58 en route to a first place swim in the 500 free on Saturday against Wright State. The senior also placed second in the 1,000 free (9:28.73) and swam the anchor leg on the second-place 400 free relay team.

 

Korey McCulley

Butler

Sr., Great Bend, Kan.

McCulley was the men's top performer on Sunday.  He led off the 400 medley relay with a team season-best 100 backstroke time of :56.60 and added a team-best 2:06.62 in the 200 backstroke.  His :57.00 in the 100 back was eclipsed only by his relay split time.

 

Andy Peterson

UIC

Fr., Morton Grove, Ill.

Peterson had a stellar meet against UW-Milwaukee and Butler on Sunday. The rookie backstroke specialist won the 100 backstroke in :53.55 and the 200 backstroke in 1:55.35. Peterson also led off UIC's winning 400 medley relay that finished in 3:32.09, thanks to his leadoff backstroke split of :53.72. 

 

Rafael Candido

Wright State

Sr., Recife, Brazil

Candido won three individual events and helped two relay teams to victory over the weekend. Candido got his weekend started with two individual victories in a dual meet at Miami (OH). The senior posted victories in the 100 breaststroke (:57.35) and the 100 freestyle (:46.06). Also in that meet he helped the Raiders to the 200 yd. Medley Relay title in a time of 1:33.79. In the Raiders dual meet against Cleveland State, Candido won the 100  freestyle in a time of :46.51 and also helped the Raiders win the final event of the meet, the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:06.40.

 

Other Women's Top Performers for the Week

 

Kristin Carlson

UW-Green Bay

Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.

Carlson won two individual events and swam on two winning relay squads as the Phoenix rolled to three wins at the IUPUI Duels Friday. She finished first in the 100 freestyle (:53.76) and the 200 freestyle (1:56.42), which she won by four seconds, and was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay (1:50.29) and the 400 freestyle relay (3:36.21). The following day in a victory over Valparaiso, Carlson swept the distance freestyle events, winning the 500 (5:12.33) by over 17 seconds and the 1000 (10:39.41) by 15 seconds. She also swam on the 200 freestyle relay team that placed second (1:42.97). 

 

Julie Elmore

Butler

Fr., Goshen, Ind.

Elmore swam to three personal season-best times against UIC and UW-Milwaukee on Sunday, posting a 1,000 free time of 11:50.60, a 100 free mark of :58.98 and a 100 fly time of 1:09.01. 

 

Andrea Giczewski

UIC

Jr., Livonia, Mich.

Giczewski showed off her versatility in Sunday's meet against UW-Milwaukee and Butler. The third-year standout took second-place in the 100 free (:54.01), third place in the 200 free (1:59.79) and fourth in the 50 free (:24.81). She also swam the third leg of UIC's runner-up 400 free relay.

 

Tina Pandza

Wright State

Sr., Velenje, Solvenia

Pandza posted three individual wins this weekend in two meets. Pandza took the 1,000 yd. Free event in a dual meet against Miami in a time of 10:35.32 and then posted two victories in a tri-mmet with Cleveland State and Youngstown State. Pandza posted a win in the 200 yd. Free event in a time of 1:57.42 and then won the 200 Backstroke in a time of 2:14.08.

 

Julia Darling

Youngstown State

Jr., Holland, Mich.

Darling was the top finisher in the 200-yard breaststroke in a double dual against Wright State and Cleveland State on Saturday, clocking in with a season-best time of 2:30.56. Darling also earned a win against the Vikings in the 200 IM, and she swam the breaststroke leg of the 400 medley relay that finished first against CSU.
