INDIANAPOLIS -- Valparaiso forward Tabitha Gerardot has been named the Horizon League women’s basketball Player of the Week, while UIC guard Terri Bender has been named the Newcomer of the Week.

Gerardot, a junior from Fort Wayne, Ind., won her first career Horizon League Player of the Week Award after leading the Crusaders back from a 19-point first half deficit in their win over Ball State on Saturday afternoon. The Preseason Second-Team All-League selection in the conference set career-highs in points (28) and rebounds (17) in the 58-53 win. She was 8-of-18 from the field and 10-of-11 from the foul line, and nine of her rebounds were on the offensive end. Gerardot’s three-pointer with 6:19 to play gave Valparaiso the lead for good and she made four free throws in the final :33 seconds to seal the win.

Bender, a freshman from Milwaukee, Wis., had a career-high 16 points in UIC’s come-from-behind win over Western Michigan on Friday. She was 6-of-11 from the field and also had six rebounds and three steals in the win as UIC won its second consecutive game.

Top Performers for the Week:
Shalonda Winton, Cleveland State (Sr., F) - Winton recorded her second triple-double of the season on Sunday afternoon. She had 18 points, 12 rebounds and a career-high 11 assists as Cleveland State won its seventh-consecutive game, defeating Lake Erie 70-51.

Brandi Brown, Youngstown State (Sr., F) - Brown had a game-high 20 points in Youngstown State’s 69-51 win over Bucknell on Saturday afternoon. She also led all players with three steals in the game.

Sarah Eichler, Green Bay (Sr., F) - Eichler had a team-high 15 points in Green Bay’s 63-42 road win over Wright State on Sunday afternoon. She finished the game 5-of-6 from the field, including 3-of-3 from three-point range. She also had three rebounds and two assists as the Phoenix held an opponent under 50 points for the eighth time this season.

Kim Demmings, Wright State (So., G) - Demmings had a game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds in Wright State’s 53-46 win over Morehead State on Sunday night. She also tied for team-high honors with five assists.

Emily Kobel, UIC (Jr., G) - Kobel scored all 13 of her points in the second half as UIC overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Western Michigan, 66-58, on Friday night. She was 3-of-5 from three-point range in the contest and also finished with five rebounds and three assists.

Ashley Green, Milwaukee (So., G/F) - Green scored 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting in Milwaukee’s loss to Drake on Saturday. She connected on three three-pointers in the game and also had seven rebounds, three blocks, two assists and steals in the contest.

Monica Albano, Loyola (Sr., G) - Albano had a team-high 19 points, knocking down five three-pointers in Loyola’s 77-61 loss at Marquette on Saturday.

Top Newcomers for the Week:
Jessi Wiedemann, Valparaiso (Fr., G) - Wiedemann finished with nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range in the Crusaders’ come-from-behind 58-53 win over Ball State on Saturday. All three of her treys came in the second half, with the last tying the game at 42 with 8:19 to go.

Brianna Innocent, Wright State (Jr., F) - Innocent was one rebound shy of a double-double on Sunday night, recording 11 points and nine rebounds in Wright State’s 53-46 win over Morehead State. She was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field in the game.

Karen Flagg, Youngstown State (Jr., F/G) - Flagg had a career-high 12 points in Youngstown State’s 69-51 win over Bucknell on Saturday. She was 5-of-7 from the field and tied for team-high honors with six rebounds. She also led the team in assists with five, while committing just one turnover in the contest.
