Talyor Named Swim Coach at Butler

R.J. Talyor has been named the interim head coach of the Butler swimming program, athletic director John Parry announced today (Oct. 12). Talyor takes over a program that he is familiar with, having served as an assistant coach with the program since June. He replaces Nichole Ellis, who resigned last month to take a position at the University of Alabama.

"I'm pleased that R. J. is willing to step in and make a bigger commitment to our program," said Parry. "He has a great understanding of our program and our goals and objectives."

Talyor brings six years of coaching experience to Butler, having served as a coach and instructor at Riviera Swim Club in Indianapolis. Currently, he works as an associate project manager for Palmer & Palmer in Carmel, Ind.

Talyor is a member of the Indy SwimFit Masters Swim Team, where he earned USMS distance All-American honors in 2003, winning the national championship in the open water one mile swim and the YMCA Masters national championship in the 200-yd. butterfly.

Talyor, who has traveled to 22 countries over six continents, has also run the Chicago Marathon twice (2003 and 2004).

He received a bachelor of arts degree from DePauw in 2002, graduating with honors. He earned four varsity letters and all-conference accolades at DePauw University, focusing in butterfly and individual medley events.

Butler opens its season Saturday with a dual meet at Valparaiso.
