Teegarden, Hagen Named Soccer Buzz All-Americans

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Senior Sarah Teegarden and freshman Sarah Hagen of the 24th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team were named All-Americans by Soccer Buzz Magazine, the online publication announced.Teegarden, who was a third-team selection by the NSCAA, was selected to Soccer Buzz's third team, as well. Hagen, meanwhile, was a fourth-team selection, was a finalist for National Freshman of the Year and earned a place on the Freshman All-America First Team.

The publication also announced its all-region selections, which included Teegarden and Hagen on the first team, while Hagen was a shoo-in for the freshman all-region team. Senior Erin Kane was a third-team selection in the region, as was junior Kate Megna.

Teegarden has earned a number of post-season awards, most notably being named to the NSCAA All-America Third Team, as well as to the NSCAA Scholar All-America First Team. She is UWM's first two-time All-American after being named Soccer Buzz Freshman All-America Honorable Mention in 2005. The Batavia, Ill., native started all 23 games and was a dominant force in the UWM midfield this season. She finished with four goals and five assists and was named to the Horizon League First Team for the fourth time in her career, one of just eight players in league history to accomplish the feat.

Hagen was named to the Soccer America Freshman All-America First Team and the TopDrawerSoccer.com All-Rookie team earlier this off-season and is the first freshman in school history to be named to a non-class All-America team. Hagen has earned a number of honors after a freshman campaign in which she set school and league records with 24 goals and a school record with 54 points. She was previously named to the NSCAA All-Region First Team, was the Horizon League's Newcomer of the Year and was a member of the all-league first team. She finished second in the nation in goals scored and fourth in total points. Hagen was also third in goals per game (1.043) and sixth in points per game (2.35).

Kane capped her career as the most accomplished goalkeeper in school or league history this season. She started all 23 games, won a school-record 17 games, boasted a 0.85 goals against average and posted nine shutouts for the Panthers. For her career, she set school and league records with 45 shutouts, a 0.67 GAA and almost 7,800 minutes played. She also broke the school record for wins with 55. After the season, she teamed with Teegarden as the only teammates in league history to earn all-league first-team honors in each of their four seasons. She also earned all-region second team honors from the NSCAA.

Megna finished second on the team with 22 points and tied a school record with 12 assists in 2008. She was named to the all-league first team after starting all 23 games. The Middleton, Wis., native also added five goals to go with her assist total. She was named the Offensive MVP of the Minnesota Gold Classic in September and was subsequently named the league player of the week.

Milwaukee had arguably its most accomplished season ever in 2008, going 18-3-2 and ascending the national rankings to a program-best No. 16 ranking by the NSCAA. The Panthers won a ninth-straight Horizon League regular season championship, a fifth league tournament title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in school history. The team's 18 wins and .864 winning percentage are both school records, as were the team's 65 goals, 70 assists and 200 points.
