Men's Tennis

The 2008 Horizon League Tennis Championships continued on Saturday morning with men's first round action. The higher seeds prevailed in every match to advance to the afternoon's semifinals matches, as No. 4 University of Wisconsin-Green Bay defeated No. 5 Wright State University, defending champion No. 3 Butler University defeated No. 6 Valparaiso University, and No. 2 University of Illinois at Chicago beat No. 7 Youngstown State University.

In semifinal action on Friday afternoon, the top-ranked Vikings swept Green Bay, 4-0 to advance to the finals of the Horizon League Championship for the first time in history. Cleveland State will face UIC, who took down six-time defending champion Butler, 4-0. It will be the first time since 1995 that the Bulldogs will not appear in the League finals. The championship match is slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.

In the consolation bracket, Valparaiso defeated Youngstown State 4-0 and will face Wright State in the fifth-place match at 9:00 Sunday morning. At the same time, Butler will face Green Bay in the third-place match.

Women's Tennis

Women's action continued Saturday morning, as No. 3 University of Detroit Mercy defeated No. 6 University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and No. 4 Cleveland State defeated No. 8 Green Bay to advance to the semifinals. In consolation play, Youngstown State defeated Valparaiso 4-0 and advanced to meet Wright State in the seventh-place match Saturday afternoon, which the Penguins won by a score of 4-2.

UIC defeated Cleveland State 4-1 in its semifinal match to advance to UIC's 13th-consecutive League finals. The Flames are seeking their 12th-straight Horizon League title. UIC will face No. 2 Butler who, after defeating Detroit 4-0, will meet UIC in the championship match for the ninth time in ten years. The two will meet at 10:30 Sunday morning.
