Horizon League Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

 

James Low

Butler, Junior, Ottawa, Ontario

Low went an impressive 4-0 as Butler won two league matches last weekend. Low topped UW-Green Bay's Mark Goldin, 6-4, 6-0, Saturday before downing UIC's Paul Glendenning, 6-1, 6-2, Sunday. Low also paired with senior Andy Bartish for a pair of convincing wins at the No. 2 doubles spot.

Jessica Lee

Wright State, Junior, Canton, Ohio

Lee was a perfect 6-0 on the week to lead the Raiders to a 3-0 week in defeating Dayton, UW-Milwaukee and Detroit.  Lee lost only seven points in defeating the Flyers' Kate Mellion, 6-0, 6-3, the Panthers' Shayna Illingworth, 6-2, 6-0 and Detroit's Aneta Maricevic, 6-2, 6-0.

Nick Camilleri

Wright State, Fr., Melbourne, Australia

Camilleri went 4-0 against Horizon League rivals UWGB and UIC this weekend with singles wins over Mark Goldin of UWGB, 6-2, 6-3 and Paul Glendenning of UIC, 5-7,6-4, 7-5 in Raiders victories.

 

Brad Groleski

Cleveland State, So., Springboro, Ohio

Groleski went 4-0 this week, including two wins at No. 4 singles and two at No. 3 doubles with partner Steven Wipprecht.  Groleski defeated Youngstown State's Brian Meek 6-2, 6-2 and downed Cyrus Manouchehrian of Robert Morris 6-0, 6-0 on Apr. 9. Groleski/Wipprecht topped Brian Meek/Zach Landgraf of YSU 8-2 Nick Paganett/Ryan Cameron of Robert Morris 8-1.

 

Tim Prudlow

UW-Green Bay, So., Elm Grove, Wis.

Although the Phoenix went 0-2 in Horizon League action last week, Prudlow was dominant at No. 1 singles. He won in two sets against Wright State April 7 before a 6-3, 6-0 win for UW-Green Bay's lone point against Butler April 8. Prudlow also added an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles against Wright State.

 

Enrico Kasjan             

UIC, Sr., Melbourne, Australia 

Kasjan picked up a No. 3 singles win over Wright State's Dan Sundersingh by a 6-1, 6-0 count on Saturday. He also earned a doubles win at the second spot with Adrianno Liccardo to help the Flames secure the doubles point.

 

Aneta Maricevic

Detroit, Fr., Hamilton, Ontario

Maricevic went 1-1 in singles and 1-1 in doubles action this week, downing Kate Mellion of Dayton in a three set marathon (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) on Friday and teaming with Ashley Cummins to win at the number two doubles slot against Wright State on Saturday.

 

Sarah Galon

Cleveland State, Jr., Waianae, Hawaii

Galon went 4-0 against League foes this weekend, earning two wins at No 1 singles and two at No. 1 doubles. She defeated UW-Green Bay's Jennifer Tan 6-1, 6-1 and UW-Milwaukee's Margie Van Lieshout 6-1, 6-0 while joining with Morgan Ungerott to down Heather Harding and  Ashley Jurgella of UW-Green Bay 8-3 and Lieshout and Traci Litscher 8-2.  Galon is 17-13 on the season at No. 1 singles, including 4-2 in conference  play.

 

Gina Peretti

Youngstown State, Jr., Boardman, Ohio

Peretti earned two No. 4 spot victories on Saturday and Sunday in back to back 6-1 victories over Horizon League opponents. Peretti's win on Saturday came with a  score 6-0, 6-0 over UW-Milwaukee's Samantha Drews and then a 6-0, 6-1 win over Megan Gregory from UW-Green Bay on Sunday. Sunday's victory marks Peretti's seventh straight match with a win at singles.

 

Iris Jaklin

UIC, Sr., Fischbach, Austria

Jaklin rebounded in a big way from a first-set loss to Butler's Alaina Griffin with a convincing second set victory and a dominating win in the third-set tiebreaker to take a 6-7 (6), 6-0, 10-1 decision at No. 1 singles. Jaklin also posted a No.2 doubles win to help pace UIC to a shutout of Butler on Sunday.  

 

Tayo Bailey

Butler, Sr., Chicago, Ill.

Bailey combined with Michelle Hawes to defeat UIC's top tandem, 8-6, in Sunday's league contest. Bailey also pushed the Flames' Callan Smith to a third-set tiebreaker before falling 10-6 at No. 2 singles.
