News & Notes from Around the League

Butler University junior Tiffany McLoughlin has come on strong in the later part of the season, picking up wins in five of her last six matches. McLoughlin's 6-2, 6-2 victory over UW-Green Bay's Jennifer Tan last week improved her record to 8-7 on the season, surpassing the 7-6 mark she compiled last season at the University of Houston before transferring to Butler this fall.

The Cleveland State University men picked up their first win of the League season last week, defeating Youngstown State 6-1. The Viking men continue play this week with matches against Walsh and Duquesne, while the women continue on a long idle stretch that lasts until April 6.

The University of Detroit Mercy dropped two matches last week, including one to the No. 3-ranked team in Division II, Lynn University. After an idle week, the Titan's look to get back on the winning track with five-straight League matches, beginning with UW-Milwaukee on April 6.

The University of Illinois at Chicago women saw a six-match winning streak end with a 5-2 loss to Eastern Michigan last week. Prior to the match, the Flames had not lost since a Feb. 11 setback against Drake. The Flames look to get back on the winning track with four consecutive matches against Horizon League opponents, beginning with UW-Green Bay this Sunday.

The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay dropped their second League match of the season last week, falling 6-1 to Butler. The Phoenix have dropped three-straight matches. Both the men's and women's teams return to action this Saturday as they face South Dakota State.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women look to snap a two-match losing streak this week as they battle South Dakota State on Saturday. In order to get back on track, UWM will rely on strong singles play, as three Panthers have collected six or more wins this spring (Kelly Dravaric (7), Ali O'Neal (6) and Traci Litscher (6)). In doubles, however, UWM has collected a total of only nine wins.

After playing only one match in the last two weeks, the Wright State University men's team kicks into high gear this week with five scheduled matches. The Raiders begin the week with Xavier and cross-town rival Dayton before facing Youngstown State in the team's second League match of the season on March 31. The next day, the Raiders are scheduled to face Morehead State and the No. 3-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes.

In a 6-1 loss to Cleveland State last week, the Youngstown State University men's tennis team failed to sweep the doubles point for only the second time in the last ninematches. Prior to the match with CSU, the Penguins had failed to claim all three positions only once since Feb. 10- in a 7-0 loss to nationally-ranked Stetson on March 14.

Valparaiso University senior Rachel Janssen picked up her second straight Mid-Continent Conference Athlete of the Week honor last week. She has now earned the distinction eleven times in her career. After an idle week, Janssen's record sits at 14-10 on the season. The Crusader women get back into action this Wednesday with a match against Chicago State.
