Horizon League Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

 

Lance Koetter

Wright State, So., Cincinnati, Ohio

Koetter went 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 singles win over Landry Nzudie of IPFW and a pair of doubles victories with Nick Camilleri, an 8-4 win over Nzudie and Nabil Mourad Filho of IPFW and an 8-6 victory over Brandon Gill and Parker Ross of Butler.  Koetter and Camilleri improved to 16-3 as a team on the season.

 

Horizon League Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

 

Aneta Maricevic

Detroit, Fr.,  Hamilton, Ontario

Freshman Aneta Maricevic scored a pair of singles victories in the Number 2 flight during Detroit's sweep of its Wisconsin rivals last week. Saturday's win came in straight sets, with a near whitewash (6-1, 6-0) over UWM's Shayna Illingworth. Maricevic also teamed with Ashley Cummins for a doubles victory at Milwaukee.

Scott Kathary

Youngstown State, So., Dublin, Ohio

Kathary was victorious for the Penguins with his win at the No. 1 spot at singles as well as doubles. Kathary's come from behind single win was against UW-Green Bay's Tim Prudlow with the score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Kathary also teamed with Tom Barth to defeat Matt Keesey and Mark Goldin 9-8 (6).

 

Scott Dickert

UW-Green Bay, Jr., Brookfield, Wis.

Dickert went 2-0 against Youngstown State April 15 as the Phoenix snapped a nine-match losing streak. Dickert posted a straight-set win at No. 4 singles and then matched with Eric Hines for a convincing 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.

 

James Low

Butler, Jr., Ottawa, Ontario

Low led the Bulldogs to a 6-1 win over Wright State in the team's regular season finale. Low posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Nick Camilleri Saturday before teaming with senior Andy Bartish for a win at No. 2 doubles. Butler closed the 2006 campaign with a 5-0 Horizon League record and will enter the upcoming league championships as the top seed. The Bulldogs have won six straight matches.

 

Eric Fey

UIC,  So., St. Charles, Ill.

Fey went undefeated during UIC's 2-0 weekend in Horizon League action. Against UW-Green Bay the second-year standout teamed with Paul Glendenning to win No. 3 doubles before taking his singles match over Eric Hines in straight sets by a 6-1, 6-3 count. On Saturday against Cleveland State, Fey and Glendenning teamed to pick up a huge 9-8 double win that clinched the doubles point, giving Fey momentum to take a 6-2, 6-3 singles win over Steven Wipprecht.

 

Tiffani Foster

Wright State, Jr., Huber Heights, Ohio

Foster went 2-2 in singles play on the week with wins over league opponents Heather Harding of UWGB, 6-3, 6-3, and Alaina Griffin of Butler, 6-7, 6-4, 7-5.  She also went 2-1 paired with Audra Beckett during the week.

 

Tayo Bailey

Butler, Sr., Chicago, Ill.

Bailey led the Bulldogs to a pair of 5-2 victories last week. Bailey downed Dayton's Kate Mellion 6-0, 6-4 Tuesday before dropping Wright State's Audra Beckett in three sets Saturday. Bailey also teamed with sophomore Michelle Hawes to split two matches at No. 1 doubles.

 

Iris Jaklin

UIC, Sr., Fischbach, Austria

Jaklin kept UIC undefeated in Horizon League play with a No. 1 singles win over Cleveland State's Sarah Galon by a 6-2, 6-3 count to go along with a doubles victory that helped UIC shutout the Vikings, 7-0, this past Saturday. 

 

Team's Prepare for this weekend's Horizon League Men's & Women's Tennis Championship

The 2006 Horizon League Men's & Women's Tennis Championship will be held this weekend, April 22-23, at North Central High School in Indianapolis.  After going 7-0 in League play this season, UIC looks to claim its tenth consecutive League championship, while Butler's men hope to run its string of consecutive championships to five.  Both teams will enter this weekend's matches as the top seed.  

 

Pairings for the 2006 championship will be announced Wednesday, April 19.
