The Butler University women's tennis team faced a tough challenge as it began the spring season last weekend. The women opened against two nationally-ranked opponents in No. 40 Purdue and No. 43 Indiana. Despite the losses, the Bulldogs can draw on the experience as they prepare to open League play when they host UW-Milwaukee on Feb. 4.

The Cleveland State University men earned a weekend win over St Francis (Pa) in dominant fashion, taking points at all the singles spots in straight sets. The Vikings also claimed the doubles point with 8-2, 8-1 and 8-0 victories at the three position. The women's team struggled, however, emerging with victories in only one of three matches over the weekend. The Vikings handily defeated St. Francis 7-0, but fell to both Akron and Toledo.

The University of Detroit Mercy Titans fell from the loss to Michigan State. Sophomore Annie Moore nearly became the second Horizon Leaguer in as many weeks to defeat MSU's Christine Bader at No. 1 singles, taking the first set 6-4. Moore could not hold the lead, however, as the Titans fell 7-0. Bader had previously lost to Cleveland State's Sarah Galon. Detroit will resume play this weekend as the Titans host Toledo on Friday.

Reigning League Newcomer of the Year Nick Camilleri defeated Renan Constantino 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3 singles and also earned a win at No. 1 singles with Lance Koetter. The Raiders swept the top four singles spot and all three doubles positions. Wright State returns to action this Friday against Chattanooga in Richmond, Ky.
