At both the Bradley Invitational and the Valparaiso Invitational, Lystad advanced to the "A" singles finals, before dropping the championship match.He also qualified for the "A" doubles championship match with teammate Andy Lockhart at the Valpo event.

Jenkins went 6-1 in singles play and 5-0 in doubles play in the last two weekends. At the Aces Fall Classic (Sept. 21-22), she advanced to the championship match of the "C" flight, and a week later, she swept through the "B" flight of the Ball State Fall Invite before taking her first singles defeat of the season.

Fr., Calgary, Alberta

Brough went 3-1 in the "B" singles flight at the Valparaiso Invitational last weekend (Sept. 28-29), rebounding from an opening round loss to claim the consolation title. He added a "C" flight doubles title with partner Brian Zaron.

Alex Lau
Valparaiso
Junior, Bloomington, Minn.

Lau started the season with a 4-3 singles record between the Bradley Invitational and the Valparaiso Fall Classic. After finishing fourth in the "A" singles at the Bradley event, he won the consolation draw of the "A" singles at Valpo. In doubles, Lau teamed with Tom Litscher to go 3-3 over the two weekends.

Ryan Trapp
Youngstown State
Senior, Warren, Ohio

Trapp won two of his four rounds of singles matches in the "B" flight at the Valparaiso Invitational. He joined teammate Scott Kathary to claim fifth place in the "A" doubles flight.

Annie Moore
Detroit
Junior, St. Clair, Mich.

At the No. 1 singles position, Moore went 2-1 at the Spartan Invitational last weekend (Sept. 29-30). After dropping a three-set decision in the first match, Moore came back to win two matches. She also went 2-1 in doubles play, claiming victories over foes from Morehead State and Cleveland State.

Ilinca Cristescu
UIC
Freshman, Bensenville, Ill.

Cristescu advanced to the semi-finals of the "A" singles and claimed third-place overall at the DePaul Invitational. She teamed up with Grace Gill-Morlis to reach the "A" doubles finals before losing to a duo from DePaul.

NEWS FROM AROUND THE LEAGUE

Butler University
The Butler women opened up fall play at the Aces Fall Classic with Natali Jaimes putting together a commanding performance in the "A" singles bracket, winning four straight matches in straight sets to earn the top singles honor. Valerie Vinluan scored three consecutive two-set victories in the "D" flight to capture the top spot in that bracket. The following weekend, the team headed to the Ball State Invitational where Molly Casperson and Becky Jenkins scored a pair of doubles victories to take the "A" flight doubles title. Jenkins also advanced to the finals of the "B" flight singles, while Gabriella Bobrowski claimed the consolation championship after winning three-straight matches.

Cleveland State University
At the Toledo Invitational, the CSU men's team saw success with Ryan Haming and Phil Orno each going 3-0 to lead the Vikings to a second-place finish in the tournament. Orno then went on the following weekend to advance to the third round at the All-American before dropping a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Clemson's Kevin Fleck.

The Viking women competed at the Spartan Invitational, where they rebounded from a disappointing 3-0 doubles loss to Toledo by routing Cincinnati 4-2. Melissa Holzinger swept UC's Alizee Paradis 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles position, while Jenn Myers rallied from a set down to claim the deciding point in the team match. The next day, CSU won five of eight matches to beat Detroit 3-1 and tie with Morehead State, 2-2.

University of Detroit Mercy
The Titan tennis team hosted three teams at the Titan Fall Invitational (Sept. 22-23), with Annie Moore winning both of her matches in the top singles flight to lead Detroit. At the Spartan Invitational the following weekend (Sept. 29-30), the squad took four of the top six singles match-ups against Akron, with Moore rallying for a comeback to win at the No. 1 singles position (3-6, 6-3, 10-2), and freshman Erin Weldon earning her ninth victory of the season on Sunday.

University of Wisconsin-Green Bay
Green Bay was led by freshman John Brough at the Valparaiso Invitational where he bounced back from a first round loss to win the consolation match of the "B" singles flight. He teamed up with fellow freshman Brian Zaron to win the "C" doubles flight. Senior Mark Goldin reached the consolation match of the "A" singles bracket before losing to Valpo's Alex Lau in three sets.

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Milwaukee had a pair of doubles teams each win two matches to move into the finals at the Ball State Fall Invitational on Friday (Sept. 28). Kelly Drvaric and Kari Kastenholz won twice in Flight "A" to reach the title match before falling to a team from Butler, while in Flight "D," Lauren Fenley and Traci Litscher fell to a team from Northern Illinois.

University of Illinois at Chicago
Sophomore Sebastian Lystad advanced to the "A" singles finals in both the Bradley Invitational (Sept. 22-23) and the Valparaiso Invitational (Sept. 29-30). At the Valpo Invite, in addition to Lystad's success in the "A" singles bracket, Eric Fey qualified for the championship match in the "B" flight, with Lystad and Andy Lockhart falling in the finals of the "A" doubles match to a pair from Toledo.

The UIC women opened their fall season at the DePaul Invitational (Sept. 21-23) with freshman Ilinca Cristescu advancing to the semi-finals of the "A" singles flight, and eventually securing third-place. Cristescu joined Grace Gill-Morlis to advance to the finals of the "A" doubles bracket, where they fell to a duo from DePaul (8-3).

Valparaiso University
The Crusader men opened up fall play at the Bradley Invitational, with Mike Shideler defeating teammate Kyle Stump 6-3, 6-3 to finish in third place in the "D" singles flight, Valparaiso's highest finish in the tournament. Junior Alex Lau finished fourth in the "A" singles bracket. Hosting the Valparaiso Invitational the following weekend, Lau won the consolation draw of the "A" singles bracket.

Wright State University
No report this week.

Youngstown State University
Youngstown State competed at the Valparaiso Invitational with Ryan Trapp and Scott Kathary teaming up to take fifth-place in the "A" doubles flight, and Trapp taking two of his four singles matches in the "B" singles flight.
