Horizon League Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

 

Mark Goldin

UW-Green Bay, So., Bayside, Wis.

Goldin posted a 2-1 mark at No. 2 doubles and narrowly missed a perfect week at the No. 3 singles spot for the Phoenix. Against nationally ranked Division III foe Gustavus Adolphus, Goldin took his counterpart to three sets with a 7-5 win in the second frame, only to fall, 6-4, in the third. Goldin dispatched opponents from Duquesne (6-2, 6-3) and South Dakota State (6-1, 6-3) to earn a 2-1 singles mark for the week.

 

Horizon League Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

 

Corey Steven

UIC, Sr., Wichita, Kan.

Steven picked up a No. 3 singles win over Detroit's Amy Inman with a 6-1, 6-0 victory UIC's 5-2 win over the Titans. The senior also teamed with Callan Smith to turn in an 8-3 doubles win over Annie Moore and Kelly Davis at the top spot. Steven teamed with Smith again later in the day to pick up a strong 8-6 No. 1 doubles win over Bowling Green's Ashley Jakupcin and Jenna Nussbaum.

Evan West

Butler, Jr., Greenwood, Ind.

Evan West posted a 2-1 singles record last week, as Butler traveled to perennial national powers Ohio State and Vanderbilt, in addition to sweeping Bradley, 7-0. West rolled over Bradley's Evgeny Samoylov, 6-3, 6-3, Saturday before topping Vanderbilt's Jordan Magarik by the same score Sunday. Both of West's wins came at the No. 5 spot.

 

Lance Koetter

Wright State, So., Cincinnati, Ohio

Koetter went 2-2 over the weekend with the two losses coming against 37th nationally- ranked singles player Chris Klingemann of Ohio State and the 2nd-ranked doubles team in the nation of Scott Green and Ross Wilson (an 8-4 defeat with Nick Camalleri).  Koetter rebounded to win both matches over Austin Peay, claiming an 8-5 doubles win with Camalleri over Andrew Naidu and Lucas DeBrito and a 6-3, 7-6 win in the top spot over Naidu.

 

Olivier Dhaine

Cleveland State, Jr., Anger, France

Dhaine continued to excel for the Vikings at the No. 2 singles spot, earning a victory over Landry Nzudic of IPFW in Cleveland State's only action last week.  Dhaine, who joined the Vikings as at the start of the spring season, is 5-1 on the year.

 

Elizabeth Angel

UW-Milwaukee, Jr., Racine, Wis.

Angel won a pair of singles matches and a doubles match as the Panthers split a pair of duals this weekend. In UWM's 7-0 win over UMKC, Angel tallied 6-1, 6-0 win over Fallon Wicker at #5 singles. She then teamed with Traci Litscher for an 8-0 win at #2 doubles. In Milwaukee's earlier loss to Creighton, Angel claimed the Panthers' only win, capturing a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lisa Ludwig at #5 singles. Angel now has 12 wins between the fall and spring this season, placing her in the top five for single-season victories in UWM history.

 

Audra Beckett

Wright State, Jr., Hamilton, Ohio

Beckett went 2-0 on Sunday against Miami with a 6-2, 6-3, over Linda Jirouskova in singles and defeated Jirouskova and Katrina Lomidze, 9-8, in the top doubles team with Tiffani Foster.

 

Aneta Maricevic                     

Detroit, Fr., Hamilton, ON

Freshman Aneta Maricevic came out on top in a 6-4, 6-4 battle with Iris Jaklin at the number two singles slot as Detroit played defending league champion UIC on Sunday. In doubles, Detroit came closest to scoring an upset at the number two post, where Maricevic teamed with sophomore Ashley Cummins. The match was tied at 7-7, but the UDM duo would eventually fall to the Flames' number two pair by a final margin of 9-7.

 

Christine Vogelgesang                       

Cleveland State, So. Hartville, Ohio

Vogelgesang went 3-0 last weekend at No. 6 singles, defeating SEMO's Morgan Kempf, IPFW's Jessica Vervynckt and Oakland's Lauren Sanchez-Murphy.  She also picked up two wins at the No. 3 doubles-spot, partnering with Jenn Myers to defeat Kimmy Anderson and Morgan Kemp of SEMO on Friday, and Oakland's Angela Tracola and Sanchez-Murphy on Sunday.
