Horizon League Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Tim Prudlow
UW-Green Bay, Jr., Elm Grove, Wis.
Prudlow went 3-1 last week in two matches, posting a victory at No. 1 singles and two wins at No. 1 doubles. In tandem play, Prudlow joined with Mark Goldin for an 8-6 win against Chicago State and a 8-3 mark versus the University of Chicago before earning a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles against Steve Saltarelli at the University of Chicago, 6-4, 6-2.

Horizon League Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Molly Casperson
Butler, Fr., Neenah, Wis.
Casperson notched a pair of wins in her first action at No. 1 singles, scoring a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 win over Katrina Lomidze of Miami (OH) on Feb. 3 before adding a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kelly Drvaric of UW-Milwaukee on Feb. 4. She also teamed up with Becky Jenkins for a pair of No. 2 doubles victories over Valparaiso and UWM.

Sebastian Lystad
UIC, Fr., Oslo, Norway
Lystad won his second consecutive match at No. 2 singles while also picking up a doubles victory with Sam Sweeney. Lystad defeated Antoine Marenaud of Wayne State in a back-and-forth 6-2, 1-6. 6-3 battle after posting the 8-2 win in tandem play.

Diego Cerzosimo
Youngstown St., So., Campanos, Brazil
Despite the Penguins dropping both weekend matches 7-0, Cerzosimo fought to keep his match close at the No. 3 spot, falling 6-4, 7-6(6).

Dan Singer
Cleveland St., Sr., Kettering, Ohio
The senior won a three-set match at No. 4 singles on Friday, 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 over Roman Silin of Niagara to provide a pivotal point in a 4-3 CSU win. He also teamed with junior Brad Groleski to win at No. 3 doubles, 8-5. The duo is 6-2 since teaming up together in the fall.

Annie Moore
Detroit, So., St. Clair, Mich.
Moore tried to spearhead a comeback for the Titans at home against Toledo as she came from behind to force a third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles before falling to Rockets senior Myriam Cueva 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.

Kelly Drvaric
UW-Milwaukee, Fr., Waukesha, Wis.
Drvaric claimed an impressive singles win over Jessica Peterson of IUPUI, pulling out a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. After missing most of the fall season with an injury, Drvaric has played at both Nos. 1 and 2 singles thus far this spring.

Nicole Haralambopolous
Youngstown St., So., Sydenham, Australia
Haralambopolous led the Penguins in a challenging match against No. 60 Marshall last weekend, however, Yulia Kashelinka proved too tough, defeating Haralambopolous 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 4 singles spot.

Denisa Muntean
Cleveland St., Fr. Toronto, Ontario
Muntean won both of her matches at No. 2 singles over the weekend in a pair of CSU victories over Niagara and St. Bonaventure. She also teamed with senior Sarah Galon at No. 1 doubles for a pair of victories.

News from Around the League

The Butler University women opened Horizon League play with a solid win over UW-Milwaukee last weekend, defeating the Panthers 5-2. Sisters Molly and Chelsey Casperson combined for four wins on the match, with Molly earning victories at No. 1 singles and No 2 doubles, and Chelsey picking up wins at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Cleveland State University head coach Brian Etzkin marked his 50th win as head coach of the men's program as the Vikings defeated Niagara 4-3 on February 2. Etzkin, who has led the Viking women to 47 wins during his tenure, is the all-time winningest coach in the history of the Cleveland State tennis program.

The University of Detroit Mercy women look to get back over the .500 mark this week as they face Eastern Michigan on Friday and Bowling Green on Sunday, Feb. 11. The Titans dropped to 1-2 last week with a 7-0 loss to Toledo.

The University of Illinois at Chicago men picked up their first win of the season last weekend, defeating Wayne State 7-0. The Flames nearly swept the match, dropping at only the No. 1 doubles spot. On the women's side, the Flames fell to the University of Illinois 7-0, exactly a year after the teams' last meeting. UIC has dropped two matches to Big Ten teams this year, including a 7-0 loss to Wisconsin on Jan. 27.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee freshman Ali O'Neal and Ashley Schoneman picked up their first career Horizon League victories in the Panther loss to Butler last weekend. O'Neal won over Becky Jenkins 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 at No. 4 singles while Schoneman posted a straight-sets win over Carrie Rachon in the No. 5 spot, 6-3, 6-3.

After defeating the University of Chicago last weekend, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men look to build a three-match winning streak as they face two in-state rivals UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater on Feb. 9 and 10, respectively. The Phoenix women are idle until they open League play against UW-Milwaukee on Feb. 16.

Wright State University senior Lance Koetter and junior Tony Teufel picked up two wins apiece in the Raiders three losses last weekend. The duo took the top two singles positions against Abilene Christian with Koetter defeating Juan Nunez 6-2, 6-7 (10-8) at No. 1 and Teufel winning 6-3, 6-3, over Kevin Beedy at No. 2. The pair also picked up doubles wins against Eastern Kentucky, giving the Raiders the only team point in a 6-1 loss.

The Youngstown State University Penguins are still in search of their first win of the season this week, after the men fell to IPFW and Eastern Illinois while the women were defeated by nationally-ranked Marshall last weekend. Both teams will try again this week as the men are scheduled to play Xavier on Saturday and the women travel to West Virginia for a Friday match-up.

The Valparaiso University women opened the spring with a perfect 2-0 start with wins over Butler (5-2) and Bradley (4-3). Rachel Janssen and Kate Evangelist each picked up three wins, with Janssen earning two victories at No. 1 singles and Evangelist earning points at No. 2 singles. The pair also combined to pick up the win at No. 1 doubles over Bradley. On the men's side, the Crusaders opened the spring season with two losses; however, both defeats came at the hands of ranked opponents then- No. 71 DePaul and No. 56 Western Michigan.
