Both the Butler University men's and women's teams suffered defeat at the hands of the Illinois State Redbirds last weekend. Despite a rally attempt, the men fell 4-3, while the women were defeated 6-1. The Bulldogs return to action this weekend with the women taking on Dayton on Friday, Feb. 16 and the men facing Kentucky (Feb. 17) and Bradley (Feb. 18).

With wins this weekend over IPFW, IUPUI and Xavier, the Cleveland State University men's tennis team ran their string of victories to five straight. The Vikings, who have not lost since a Jan. 20 setback to Michigan State, are now 8-1. The team did not reach the eight win mark last season until April 1 when they defeated Wright State 5-2.

The University of Detroit Mercy women (1-4) can climb back to the .500 mark with one very successful stay in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Within a 24-hour span, the Titans will take on three opponents starting with Bradley at 2 p.m. on Feb. 16, followed by Evansville at 9 a.m. and Robert Morris at 2 p.m. on the 17th.

The University of Illinois at Chicago women's tennis team fell to Western Michigan and Drake in weekend play, extending its winless steak to five matches. The 10-time defending Horizon League champions did not lose more than three straight all of last season, a fate they suffered only once when they were defeated by Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State in successive matches from March 18-21, 2006. The Flames look to snap their streak on Saturday as they travel to Illinois State for a 1 p.m. contest.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team marked two firsts with wins over Coe College and Creighton this weekend. During the 6-1 win over Coe, the Panthers picked up the doubles point for the first time in five spring matches, while their victory over Creighton was the first over a Division I opponent this season.

After an idle week, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay women return to the courts to face League foe UW-Milwaukee on Friday, Feb. 16. Last season, the Phoenix's only win in League play came against the Panthers, a 5-2 victory on March 5.

The Youngstown State University women are idle this week as they prepare to open League play against Cleveland State on Feb. 23. After four spring duals, the Penguins are still looking for their first team win. Last season, YSU defeated the Vikings 4-3 behind wins from the lower four singles position players (Gina Peretti, Michelle Fuleky, Nicole Haralambopolous and Irena Lanc) all of which returned for the Penguins this year.

Valparaiso University sophomore Alex Lau notched the first point of the spring for the Crusader men when he defeated Jordan Nestrud 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles in a 6-1 loss to Eastern Illinois over the weekend. With the loss, Valparaiso fell to 0-4 on the season. On the women's side, the Crusaders suffered their first setback of the spring, losing to EIU 5-2. Kim Sajevic and Lindsey Gustafson picked up the lone singles wins for Valpo at No. 4 and No. 6 respectively.
