Horizon League Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week

 

Brian Meek

Youngstown State, Jr., Youngstown, Ohio

Meek won his singles match at the No. 3 spot defeating Dawson Pearce 6-0, 7-6, (1) from Niagara University. He also paired with Scott Kathary at No. 1 doubles to beat Erick Garcia/ Alexander Abji, 8-2.

 

Horizon League Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

 

Molly Smith

UIC, Sr., Leawood, Kan.

Smith went undefeated in both singles and doubles action over the weekend in UIC's road matches against Iowa State and Northern Iowa. At Iowa State, Smith downed Elizabeth Chermel by a 7-5, 6-1 count in No. 4 singles play and teamed with Grace Gill-Morlis for a No. 3 doubles win. Smith then picked up another doubles win with Gill-Morlis before picking up a convincing 6-0, 6-2 singles win over Taynara Moraes to lead UIC to a 5-2 win over UNI.

Jennifer Tan

UW-Green Bay, So., Palatine, Ill.

Tan teamed with classmate Megan Gregory to post an 8-3 victory over the UWM tandem at No. 2 doubles. In singles, Tan dispatched the Panthers' Shayna Illingworth 6-2, 6-2.

 

Elizabeth Angel

UW-Milwaukee, Jr., Racine, Wis.

Angel continued her strong play in UWM's only contest of the week. She tallied a 6-3, 7-6 (1) victory over Megan Gregory of UWGB. The win came at #4 singles, up one spot from her usual #5 singles slot.

 

Audra Beckett

Wright State, Jr., Hamilton, Ohio

Beckett defeated Anne Pennington of Murray State on Sunday, 6-4, 7-5 in the third singles position.

 

Nicole Haralambopoulos

Youngstown State, Fr.,  Sydenham, Australia

Haralambopoulos defeated Kristin Chamberlain 6-7 (2), 7-6 (3), 6-2. Her third set tie breaker victory played an important role in the Penguins 4-3 win over Cleveland State.

 

Jenn Myers

Cleveland State, So., Chillicothe, Ohio

Myers Went 2-0 this weekend at No. 2 singles and 1-1 in doubles. She downed Chicago State's Cristina Vlase 6-3, 6-3 and Youngstown's Emily Thayer 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (2). Myers is on a three-match winning streak, improving to 14-7 for the year. She is 7-4 for the spring.
