INDIANAPOLIS -- Green Bay sophomore Michael Tenzer and UIC junior Jana Knoppe have been named the Horizon League's Scholar-Athletes of the Month for April.

The award is voted on by Faculty Athletic Representatives from the conference's member institutions.

Tenzer, a Business Administration major, carries a 3.80 GPA at Green Bay. With his help, the Phoenix men's tennis team turned in a school-best 3.70 combined GPA during the fall semester. Led by men's tennis, Green Bay's athletic teams achieved a 26th-straight semester above a 3.0 GPA -- turning in a 3.24 mark this fall, the highest in school history.

On the tennis court, Tenzer was the Phoenix's first men's tennis Player of the Year, their first since Tim Prudlow in 2006. Tenzer finished the season with a 16-4 singles record, including a perfect 6-0 mark in regular season Horizon League matchups and 5-1 overall in singles matches in April.

Tenzer helped lead Green Bay to five straight wins to start the month of April before the Phoenix fell 4-3 to Cleveland State in the Horizon League championship.

Knoppe carried the Flames one step further in April, winning in straight sets at No. 4 singles as UIC won its 17th consecutive Horizon League title. During the month, she went 5-0 in singles play -- all against Horizon League opponents, including the deciding point in a 4-3 win over Youngstown State on April 12.

Off the court, Knoppe majors in Civil Engineering and careers a 3.55 GPA. The junior helped the women's tennis team win the GPA Award at UIC's annual Night of Champions event. The team holds a collective 3.45 GPA.
