INDIANAPOLIS – Cleveland State’s Berry Thompson and Milwaukee’s Sierra Townsend are the Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Swimmer of the Week for Jan. 9-15.
Thompson, a junior from Woodmere, Ohio, took top honors in both individual events he entered at the Oakland Tri-Meet. Thompson won the 50-freestyle in a time of 20.95 and also won the 100-freestyle with a time of 45.55. The two-time Swimmer of the Week this season also swam a 44.90 split for the 400-freestyle relay team which finished second out of 10 teams.
Cleveland State has two dual-meets schedule for this week. They host Miami (Ohio) on Friday before swimming at conference foe Wright State on Saturday.
Townsend, a freshman from Sturgeon Bay, Wis., took home women’s top honors after winning all three events she competed in in Milwaukee’s dual-meet over Carthage College Saturday. Townsend won the 50-freestyle in 24.54 and the 100-freestyle in 53.02. She also anchored the first place 400-medley relay team that won by nearly 15 seconds.
Milwaukee returns to the pool on Jan. 28 in a dual-meet against Western Illinois.
