Three Horizon League Volleyball Players on AVCA All-Region Team; UWM's Kayla Price Region Freshman of the Year

The Horizon League placed three players on the Midwest All-Region team announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association Tuesday. Regular season and tournament champion Milwaukee was represented on the squad by senior Kerri Schuh and sophomore Rachel Neuberger while Valparaiso’s Taylor Root also garnered honors. Milwaukee freshman Kayla Price was named the Midwest Region’s Freshman of the Year.

Schuh, on the team for the second time in her career, was the Horizon League Player of the Year for the second consecutive year this past season. The senior outside hitter was the only player in the conference to rank in the top-five in kills and blocks last season and finished her final season with 12 double-doubles.

Neuberger is making her first appearance on the Midwest All-Region Team after being the Region’s Freshman of the Year last season. The sophomore from Muskego, Wis., hit .327 last season, the highest percentage in the league and also contributed 124 blocks, averaging 1.15 per set, second in the conference.

Root, joining Schuh as a two-time honoree, was the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season last year. The junior averaged 5.46 digs per set last season to finish with 677 digs for the season and now has two of the top-three single-season dig marks in Valparaiso history. Root has tallied 2,017 digs in her first three seasons to become the Horizon League’s career leader.

Price was named Midwest Region Freshman of the Year after averaging 10.93 assists per set in her rookie campaign to lead the Horizon League. She collected 14 double-doubles while going past 40 assists 16 times, including three efforts of 50 or more assists. Price also wound up third on the team in digs, averaging 2.75 per set.

Valparaiso senior setter Jenny Pokorny was listed as an Honorable Mention All-Midwest Region recipient for the second time of her career.
