Three Volleyball Players Receive Honorable Mention on AVCA All-Region Teams

Valparaiso's Emily Campbell, Oakland's Taylor Humm and UIC's Stephenee Yancy all received Honorale Mention honors as the American Volleyball Coaches Association' All-Region teams were announced Tuesday.

All three players were standouts in the Horizon League this season as Campbell and Yancy were Co-Players of the Year and Humm was the League's Defensive Player of the Year.

Campbell adds the honorable mention All-Region recognition to an already impressive collection of awards from the 2014 season, as she was previously honored as the Horizon League’s co-Player of the Year.  The sophomore tallied 480 kills on the year, tied for fifth-most in a single season in program history, while her 4.32 kills/set ranked second in the league and 24th nationally.  Defensively, Campbell totaled 325 digs and ranked third on the team with 2.93 digs/set, recording double-doubles in 19 matches on the season.

Humm concluded her stellar career with the team's appearance in its first-ever NCAA Volleyball Tournament at the Division I level, a career that included an overall record of 71-49. As an individual, Humm led the team in digs (545) in her first season as the team's libero after playing three years as a six-rotation outside hitter. Humm also was named the Horizon League's 2014 Defensive Player of the Year. For her career, Humm ranks third in program history in digs (1,548), third in digs per set (3.83), seventh in sets played (404), tied for eighth in service aces (70) and 11th in kills (686). Her season total of 120 sets is a program record and her 545 digs is fourth-best in Oakland single season records.

Yancy was named the Horizon League Co-Player of the Year and finished the season ranked tenth in the nation with 512 kills. She also ranked 20th in kills per set (4.38) and 57th in attack percentage (.358). Yancy is the fifth player in program history to put down 500 kills in a single season. Yancy's .358 attack percentage broke the program record held by Kathy Berg (.354 in 1998). Her attack percentage is the tenth highest single-season mark in Horizon League history. Yancy led the Horizon League in both kills per set and attack percentage. Yancy was a strong presence at the net as she ranked eighth in the Horizon League with 106 total blocks. Yancy put down double-digit kills in all 31 matches, had seven 20-plus kill performances and was named to three all-tournament teams. She was also named the Horizon League's "Offensive Player of the Week" a program-record four times this season.
