Junior Alainna Stefan fired a 78 to lead the Titans Friday on Day 2 of the NCAA Women’s Golf Central Regional in Columbus, IN.
Stefan toured the front nine at Otter Creek Golf Club in one over par, then got back to even with a two-foot birdie putt on the 11th hole. She suffered some putting woes on the way in, however, to finish at 6 over for the day, but still nine strokes better than her first round.
Senior Rachel McHenry was next in line for the Titans with an 86 Friday, eight strokes better than her opening round score.
As a team, the Titans shot 354, just two shots higher than their first day’s total despite the high winds that plagued them on the back nine. That maintained their hold on 23rd place and leaves them eight shots ahead of Jackson State.
“The team got off to a much better start but when the wind picked up it was hard for us to stay away from some big numbers. But we’ve got one more round to go and we’ll come back and see if we can bring it down a little bit tomorrow,” coach Terri Anthony-Ryan said.
The Titans will head back to the tee at 1:25 p.m. on Saturday afternoon to finish out the 54-hole Regional. Once again, Golfstat.com will provide live scoring of the event.
