Butler University senior Andy Baker, University of Illinois at Chicago senior Mike Savegnago, Valparaiso University senior Laura Rolf and UIC junior Monique Bostert have been named Horizon League Track & Field Athletes of the Week for the period of Feb. 9-15.
Baker, a native of Minehead, U.K., receives the Men's Running Events honor after surpassing the NCAA's Indoor Championship 5,000-meter qualifying standard (14:00.51) on Saturday at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash. The time was a personal record and broke Butler's indoor school record.
Savegnago, a native of Winfield, Ill., picks up the Men's Field Events award after finishing third in the heptathlon (5,103 points) on Saturday at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. The school-record point total included a first-place performance in the pole vault (4.60 meters) and second-place efforts in both the 60-meter (7.21) and shot put (12.37 meters).
Rolf, a native of Rochester, Mich., receives the Women's Running Events honor after winning the 5,000-meter (16:59.88) on Friday at the Chicagoland Championships in Romeoville, Ill.
Bostert, a native of Glendale Heights, Ill., picks up the Women's Field Events award after winning the weight throw (16.70 meters) at the Chicagoland Championships.
Savegnago, Bostert and the Flames return to action on Friday at the UWM Panther Tune-Up in Milwaukee, Wis. Rolf and the Crusaders return to competition on Saturday at the Boilermaker Invitational in West Lafayette, Ind. Baker and the Bulldogs are idle until the Horizon League Indoor Championships Feb. 28-March 1.
