Walter Triplett, the head men's tennis coach at Sinclair Community College the past four years, has been named the new head men's and women's tennis coach at Wright State University, WSU Athletics Director Michael Cusack announced Friday.

Triplett, who will start immediately, replaces Herb Foster, who served as the men's coach for seven years and the women for four before passing away this fall.

"I am excited to have a protégé of Herb's to continue the tradition he was developing," said Cusack. "Herb took the two programs to a new level and we believe Walt can take it to the next level."

Triplett led Sinclair to a national ranking in each of his four years with the program, joining Ohio State as the only two programs in Ohio to achieve this distinction. Away from the court, he coached two National Junior College Athletic Association Academic All-Americans and five Ohio Community College Athletic Association Academic All-Americans. His teams were also twice the recipient of the Athletic Directors Award for being the Sinclair team with the highest grade point average. Seven former student-athletes, both male and female, have gone on to earn scholarships to compete at the next level.

Along with his tenure at Sinclair, Triplett has experience as a tennis instuctor at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base Tennis Club.

A member of the United States Professional Tennis Association and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, Triplett earned a degree in Political Sciences and Urban Life from Atlanta Metropolitan College in 1995.

The WSU men's tennis team opens the spring portion of its schedule at Michigan State on January 15 while the women begin the weekend of January 22-23 as they face Bowling Green and Toledo in Toledo.
